Any Ideas??--Can You Help Me Clean This???

My youngest daughter is expecting her 3rd child any day now.  In anticipation of his arrival I dug around our basement to find the pack-n-play we have stored down there.

To my dismay, when I got it upstairs I noticed a very musty smell, probably due to all the rain Wisconsin has received this year.

Now I am trying to figure out how to safely clean it so the smell goes away.  I have tried washing it with the Lysol disinfecting wipes, but nothing else.  I am worried about hurting the fabric and I want to be careful what I use so as not to hurt the baby.

Do you have any ideas????  I want to try everything I can before giving up and buying a new one as they are not the cheapest things in the world and we really don't use it alot it's just nice to have on hand.

 Please help.......

musty is hard to get rid of,sunshine helps and so does a dehumidifier,other then that I would use Bleach and water to wash it...Good Luck

You could try tea tree oil. There are many natural soaps on the market with tea tree. Or a solution of white vinegar and water.

A pack-n-play is one of those folding play pens right ? (Nature's Miracle from the pet store maybe? It's good at removing other odors, like pet accidents. You have to keep it damp until it's done working though - might not be good for something with metal parts. Otherwise, the baking soda sounds like a good idea.

Nature's Miracle is good to have around with a baby anyway - I used it on the kids beds when they had accidents and when unknown spills in the carpet made their presence known later.

If it folds down small enough to fit into a garbage bag, you could try packing it with lots of crumpled up newspaper for a few days and sealing the bag. That works wonders for absorbing odors.

I would use a bit of bleach and water and then febreeze it! My daughter spills all the time and most often that takes care if it.

I would try vinegar and water or bleach and water either one should get rid of the smell.

Maybe you could use the bottled stuff made for attaching to a hose and spraying the exterior of houses for mildew etc.

I am a mold freak. I would throw it away even though you would only use it a short while and buy a new one.

Baking soda is very good, it would be more effective if you could cover the thing in plastic and let it sit for a few hours.

Try baking soda first - let it sit outside for a couple days nights.

Then try the vinegar water solution and lots of sunshine.

If it has a lot of plastic - try a product called Greased Lightning - Home Depot carries it - apply let sit - hose off and then sunshine.

My mom recommends using those oily lemony furniture wipes on the plastic after a thorough cleansing.

Sounds like you got some great ideas above. I was thinking of taking oxyclean or something and hosing it down outside and then letting the sunshine dry it out. I have no idea if that would work.
