A few nights ago when I came to Gather at midnight, I got a page that said Gather was under site maintenance and would be back at 3 AM. I waited up for Gather, but when I came back to Gather at 4 AM, a different site maintenance notice was posted and said Gather would be back at 4:30 AM. I guess the upgrade took longer than it was intended. I went ahead to bed because it was way too late.
Then, Gather got upgraded. The next time when I logged on, it looked totally different. It took me quite a while to find the "Share" link, which previously was known as "Publish". It will definitely take me a while to get used to the new navigation and terminology!
At a glance, I think I like the old way of navigation better. "Explore" really isn't intuitive to me. I also like to call my stories "articles", because they are fruits of my hard work, and not just something I "post" quickly (like on a bulletin board or something). I guess it's all in the perception.
How do you like the whole new Gather so far?

I Gather has a way to go but is not all that difficult.. change is hard for some folks.. but be persistent... you will figure it out... (just in time for the next change.. hehehe)
I like the photos slideshow kinda feature at the bottom of posts, video embeds, and that all the groups and tags are hidden behind a drop down list at the bottom of a post.
I will agree, the "explore" is not particularly intuitive ... but it does get us where we are going.
However, it shows the direction Gather is apparently heading in...less content and more social interaction. This then raises the question of what members will socialize around if not for content?
good luck everyone... it's hard to find my friends without searching through comments and stuff... ugh...
Perhaps the Gather staff is tweaking the newest change (downgrade). Now, if they could only make the advertisement placement better - I know the site needs to make money, but what they have now is just sooo tacky.
Btw, what has become of “Gather Essentials”? Now that there’s no longer a cover page, aren’t they now just like any other group? This means no more special incentive to write better articles in attempt to be featured there. Just where is this site heading anyway?
Kevin - Thanks for your insight!
