Generally my life sucks. I've got MS, don't work anymore, hear voices, barely write anymore. The only thing I do worthwhile is send books & movies to soldiers via a web site started by a guy named Storm: http://booksforsoldiers.com/donate.php.
On Books for Soldiers we read, via site moderators, direct requests for novels, bios, history, poetry, romances, sci fi, mysteries, short stories, etc. We get requests for textbooks. We get lots of requests for TV DVDs -- Heroes, Prison Break, Lost, Dr. Who, Battlestar Galactica, etc. -- and for recent or classic movies. We connect with individual men & women, write to them, get the best letters ever back.
The site is apolitical. It's not about war or politics. It's about books, people & books.
Books for Soldiers got hit a few months ago by a malicious hacker that ended up costing Storm & the site thousands to fix and find a new server. Storm asked us to ask our co-workers & the people we pray with to hold a Save BooksForSoldiers Day -- to ask for help to raise at least $30,000 by December 31, 2008. Or the site will die.
I don't have a work place to ask, and I don't go to temple.
So tonight, now that I've figured out that this changed Gather is basically what it always was, I thought I'd ask you.
You don't have to join the site to donate money. For the month of July, donations are being doubled by a challenge match from AT&T.
Of course, you can join too. That'll take a little longer. You'll have to download a PDF file, and do what it says, but it's worth it.
FYI: "BooksForSoldiers.com is a Red Grail charity, a Not-For-Profit corporation registered in North Carolina. Books For Soldiers is owned and operated by the Order of the Red Grail, a non-denominational, interfaith outreach ministry and is a 501(c)(3) charity recognized by the IRS...All donations are tax-deductible."

Arlene. A wonderful cause. Your email saying help save this site may have brought fewer readers. Don’t know for sure, just a guess. But the first thing I thought, they want money… And that may have kept many away. (This is a comment link for A Stone’s Throw Away. It was written for you’re entertainment. Don’t click this link until you’re in the mood to be entertained.)
Oh, and BTW, enrich your experience on Gather by joining us at pointmasters.gather.com.
I will look into this site, Arlene.
Sorry your site got hacked, what vermin would do such a thing?!
I will definitely go to the site.
I will send good thoughts your way also.
May Peace and serenity be with you.
