I was in Duluth last week, running all those errands that a 168 mile round-trip drive demands, when I decided that I also needed to take a walk. I headed for the city's harbor walk that stretches along Lake Superior from the city outskirts on the east through Canal Park to the west and entered where the rose gardens make their home. It was not the roses that drew me. It was the peonies. Take a look with me.

The Tourganelle Peony

The Comanche Peony

The Bowl of Beauty Peony

The Krinkled White Peony

The America Peony

The Gay Paree Peony
My simple digital camera does not do justice to the luminous quality of these blooms. They seemed to emanate light from within.

Thanks a bunch
When I bought the house I live in it was August. On the far sides around the garden shed there were these scrubby, brown, ugly shambles of decay that I mowed over and wonder what to do with them. I forgot about them. Late the next spring I discovered a flower new to me - peonies!
