Last week my spontaneous DH and I decided to "getaway" for a few days. We've done this before, when he says, "Let's go!" I start running around the house flinging clothes, my blow dryer, cosmetics, meds etc. into a suitcase right quick!
After buckling my seatbelt he looked at me and said, "Where to?" Grabbing the blue map holder, I pulled out the "Arkansas State Park" guide and started leafing through it. "Hmmmm, how about we check out the new Fort Smith State Park to the south of us? It just reopened the end of May."

The park is brand new, moved from the old site because of the combining of Lake Fort Smith and Lake Shepherd Springs which provides an additional water storage supply for the city of Fort Smith. The park is nice, new and somewhat scenic but, to be honest, it's not comparable in beauty to some of the other state parks we've visited here in Arkansas.

After spending a half hour in the Vistor's Center and buckling back in I asked,
"Now where to?"
"Hmmmm, how about Branson?"
"Branson? That means back tracking?"
"So?"
"Okay, back to the Interstate."
"No, off the Interstate."
"Hmmm, well, there aren't very many roads through the Ozarks honey, its way out of the way."
"So? We're on vacation."
Grabbing the map again we headed up old, twisting and turning road Hwy 71, stopping at one of our favorite places, Artist Point. Now this is the Arkansas I so love!

Next to the lookout, there is a gift shop, this is where I purchased a brand new Arkansas diamond ring..hee, hee, hee:

Stay tuned for Part II of our ramblings, Branson!
