Create an in-home spa to help revitalize your skin and your spirit
Day Spas are popping up everywhere! People are discovering the rejuvenating benefit of massages, facials and other pampering treatments on their health. While your body is relaxing during a skin-nourishing facial, your blood pressure and heart rate may naturally balance, especially if you've had a stressful day.
Pampering yourself helps to refresh your attitude. When your mind and body are always busy, they get tired and that affects how you feel and how well you do things. Give yourself a facial or body care treatment a few times a week to help rejuvenate your tired body and mind. Better yet, you can take a moment every day to spend time in prayer or quiet contemplation to help quiet your body and mind.
What's preventing you from taking a break from stress and nourishing your skin and spirit with a pampering treatment? Don't fret if you don't have a day spa in your area or don't want to spend the money to go to the spa - you have the ingredients to create a nourishing skin treatment to apply in your very own day spa at home. It's true - your kitchen has most of the ingredients you'll need!
Healthy Oatmeal Moisturizing Mask
1/8 C uncooked oatmeal
1/4 C milk
Banana skin
Pour milk over oatmeal; leave for 3 - 5 minutes until most of the milk is absorbed. Place oatmeal over face and neck; don't get too close to eyes. Place warm washcloth over eyes and sit back while oatmeal mix dries on skin. Carefully rinse off with lukewarm water. Carefully rub inside of banana skin over face and neck. Place warm washcloth over eyes and allow banana to sit on skin for 2 - 3 minutes. Rinse off with lukewarm water. Moisturize with your regular face and eye moisturizer.
Blueberry Revitalizing Mask
1/4 C plain yogurt, warmed to room temperature
1/4 C fresh blueberries or frozen brought to room temperature
1 t honey
2 chamomile tea bags - if fresh, steep
in lukewarm water for 3 - 5 minutes
Mix ingredients well. Apply mask to face, neck and chest. Lay back in comfortable chair, place tea bags over eyes. Listen to relaxing music until mask dries - up to 15 minutes. Rinse off with lukewarm water.
Preparing your sanctuary
First, prepare an area of your home where you can relax after you've applied your facial or skin treatment. It should be a quiet room or space where you won't be disturbed.
If you have a CD player, select soothing music. If you plan on a "full-body" treatment, cover your chair or sofa with towels to protect them. Now, it's to the kitchen to prepare your beauty treatments.
Quick Treatments:
- Apply mashed avocado to face and neck.
Let it sit for 5 minutes, rinse off. - If skin on arms, legs or body is dry, apply olive oil to skin. Allow it to sit for up to 10 minutes, jump into shower and rinse off with warm water.
- Allow green tea to cool to room temperature. Place in plastic spray bottle; spray on face after washing every day to help reduce redness and other signs of inflammation.
- To refresh your body with green tea, use your spray bottle to spray your body while you stand in the shower or bathtub. Allow to sit for five minutes and rinse off with lukewarm water.
- With a clean pastry or paint brush, smooth soothing milk onto your face and neck while standing over a sink or in a tub. Allow it to dry; rinse off with lukewarm water.
- Help tighten skin with egg white. Beat an egg white until soft peaks form; apply to face and neck. Allow to dry for 5 - 10 minutes, then rinse off with lukewarm water.
Make your own beauty treatment Combine the natural ingredients above to create your own beauty mask or bath time beauty ritual. Keep in mind that if you mix natural ingredients you should use them immediately, or refrigerate them to keep them fresh.
Be careful of using overly-acidic produce, such as strawberries and tomatoes. Both of these fruits have a highly acid content and may irritate skin. If your skin begins to itch or burn after applying any product - whether store bought or homemade - rinse off immediately with lukewarm water.
Now, there's no reason why you shouldn't pamper yourself at home! After all - your body and spirit deserve it! You can find the best facial and body moisturizing ingredients in the world in your refrigerator or grocery store.
