Recently, I have taken to the trails in Upstate New York. I have been mesmerized to find some absolutely beautiful spots hiding around me. I found the trail near the Black River Drive In with the help of my kids. It is so neat to walk along the carved rocks and enjoy all the sights and sounds. We are working hard at getting out and getting active and it is so much fun. Often we even take a few of the neighbor kids or school friends.
I have also been exploring the trail near the Deferiet Bridge on NYS Rte 3. I was surprised by how many people actually are using these trails, too. There is a really neat spot where the water is very shallow and the kids think that it is the coolest thing.
The kids are loving to get out in the fresh air and exercise, and at the end of the day they are ready to go to sleep. My youngest begs me, "Mamma, Can't we go to the Black River Trail?"
If you are familiar with the area and know some other spots, I would love to hear of them.
If you are not from here and love the outdoors as much as we do, come visit! There is lots to do here in Upstate. We are only a short 30 minutes from the Thousand Islands and Canada. In Watertown there is world Class Whitewater rafting and plenty of great fishing, swimming and Camping, not to mention that you can be in the Adirondacks in less than 2 hrs.
What great outdoor adventures do you have where you live??

The town I live in is surrounded by park land. I hope it is never sold off so we can be an island in the sea of progress. We have 2 state parks, a huge metro park and a get-away camp for a city.
