friends

picnic at the park

intimate meeting at their home

dancing with my wife

seeing them listen to the music

kayaking on the lake

swimming in the club's pool

barbecuing at home

dinner at the restaurant

telephone calls to connect

sitting together at the movies

wine, scotch, highball

water, juice or tea

allegiances maintained

successes to be made

salutes and toasts

statements made in vain

introduced to new people

meeting their dog or cat

so much can be shared

we know so little

Your idea caught my attention, but it needs more editing, I think. A little rough on the transitions and only a hint at resonance.

Sarah, thanks for the constructive comment! I will certainly consider it! Most people do not see this poem as a contrasting list poem -- as it was intended! The subtlety of it and the twist ending were intended to make a statement!
