Two weeks ago, we had a kickoff dinner for Discipleship Training at our house. We had over 35 people there composed of mostly YL leaders and their parents and family. It's a pretty cool experience for us to have several parents banging down the door to want to be a part of this training. The range of people we have coming is very broad. We have kids who are in college and still care about things like Speed Racer Toys. Then, we have people who work in local factories and sell these. We also have a Cincinnati financial planner. So, people from all walks of life are involved.
The training is called the Story Formed Life, and it is all about how the Christian story and our own personal story. The idea is basically that there is one overriding story that we are all a part of (an idea not very popular today), but that we have all bought into the idea that our own stories are more important. The moment we believe in God's story more than our own is when you begin to see powerful things happen in following Jesus. The training goes through the progression of Creation, Fall, Gospel, Lordship, Sonship, the Spirit filled Life, the Disciplined Life, the Church, the Kingdom, and the Recreation. Pretty exciting stuff!
