I was venting to my mom the other night (only the second or third time I've talked to her the entire month I've been out here, so I had a lot built up). I told her that at this point, the two more memorable parts of the summer were the chipmunk incident and the balloon in the face one. I told the story about the chipmunk death so now you get to hear about the balloon one.
The youngest Peanut can be quite the handful, to say the least, and although I love him to death, during his bad moments (which are not rare at all), it can get rough. We were down at the lake and he was being pretty good. One of the lifeguards gave him a balloon to play with in the water, and I'm sure you can see where this is going.
The balloon popped, of course. Right in his face....on his face. What a shock to a three year old! As tramatic as it was to him, I'm sure, it was really hard not to just keel over laughing because of how it happened and his initial reaction to it. Weeks later, he still loves balloons but he'll run at the very squeak of one or a counselor teasing him about it going to pop. Poor kid was probably traumatized for life but at the time (and even now with all we go through), it was hilarious!
