I've been fit my whole life, so I never understood those friends of mine striving to lose weight, always trying new diets and fitness workouts, always spending money on fitness books or expensive equimpent. Up to here, everything makes sense, but if I tell you that they never manged to get fit, maybe you can see my point: what's the use of all these diets and tone stomach and pain and restrictions, if you still look like Miss Piggy and you need to buy bigger clothes every two years?
How I Got The Weight Loss Programs Interest
One day I fell down on the stairs and broke a leg. Too bad I've broken it from the hip, so I had to spend about 6 months in bed, after a complicated surgery, and then I had to endure the recovery period which meant I had to learn again how to walk. While before I was living an active life, now I was just watching TV, reading and eating all day long. There is no wonder that I ended up like my Miss Piggy friends, fat and miserable that my wardrobe was not suitable anymore to my new size. It became obvious that the why lose weight question had a strong and direct answer.
Despite the fact that I've received lots of advice from friends, telling me what diets work best, and what weight loss programs I need to follow in order to have results, or what latest treadmill or abs workout machine I need to buy, I prefered to ignore them and go to a dietetitian. She explained me how our body works, how we consume energy while doing any activity, and how that energy translated into calories. Calories are a measure of the amount of energy we need for functioning, and we take these calories from food. If you look on the packages in the supermarket, you'll notice that the number of calories is given for almost every product, so you can easily calculate how much is your daily caloric intake, and you can balance it with the amount of activity you do.
From that day, I wasn't lost anymore in this weight loss forest of pills, diets, teas or gyms, or various weight loss myths, because I knew that scientific way was the secret to healthy weight loss and to a great body. Of course I'm not neglecting physical exercise, but instead of sweating for hours in gyms, I prefer to go for other activities, such as swimming, stretching or yoga. Yes, if you didn't know by now, please find out that there are yoga exercises which can help you lose weight if you do them correctly. Besides, I found yoga to be very good for my mind as well, so I can say I became more relaxed lately, more calm and more serene. Additionally, I started to pay more attention to alternative cures that may improve my general wellbeing and health.

My problem is KEEPING it off.
I gained about 14 kilos (~28 pounds) and I managed to get rid of 10 kilos. The best thing is that I was lucky to be able to maintain it like this for years. I was just paying attention to the number of calories I ate each day and I made sure not to give up exercise. Lately I discovered roller blades - I go in the park and skate for about one hour every day (except those when the temperatures are too high)
