The unfinished autobiography of Robert B. I haven't been all good, but I haven't been all bad either.

JOURNEY(an Autobiography)
© Robert C Burnham
I am a long time on my journey
I got a much longer ways to go
I have been down one hundred
But there's still a thousand roads
I have listened to Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash.
and Sheryl Crow
Learning so much but yet uncertain
how they could know my tortured soul.
In my early days I dreamed of greatness
Changing the world was to be my call
Always dreaming of helping others
Never thinking that I could fall
I heard preachers from the pulpits
how dare they have the gall
For they insisted that upon my own
I would never climb that wall.
In the Sixties I was just another child
In the Seventies - a boy
In the Eighties I thought I was a man
But that illusion was destroyed
My house of cards first tumbled down
As I escaped my only child
Never pausing to realize
I could run for just a while.
The last twenty years, where have they gone?
Worn out like a balloon with no air
All of my expectations openly shattered
I ponder, how the Hell did I get here
Too much time looking for a God & Lover
or just someone else to care?
A decade of emotions and pain
given over to the Langoliers.
Now I rest on the brink of the future
Wondering what may come
Hoping that the conclusion of my existence
Will produce a worthwhile sum
I will continue to earnestly listen
to the poets of my time
Seeking to place my name next to theirs
as a master of the rhyme.

Thanks.
You've got the rhyme and you've got the time
To work on LOVE and polishing your SHINE
I enjoyed reading this poem!
You never disappoint~
Karen
A good piece and, obviously, insightful by its nature.
A rhyming is also refined
And I know you don't mind
Posing to shoot Teddy is not divine !!!
Thanks for the post 'n' sharing Robert .....
heh heh heh!!! Sorry... couldn't resist. But we all know what kinda nice fellow you are...so I hope ya get a giggle, rather than a growl.
i'm wondering what my next step is in this long road too...
all has not been great and surely there is a better life for me somewhere....
God Bless...
I used to wonder how Cat Stevens knew what was in my heart. A lot of music lyrics come from hearts just like ours.
I saw the TV movie of "Langoliers" and it was scary. It was very good, but scary.
Please tell me you did not shoot the teddy bear!
Better though, were the words of wisdom from big sister.
I think that most of us (males especially) have dreams of changing the world or at least taking it by storm. We feel we are so capable as we reach our physical maturity that there is nothing we cannot do. By the time mental and emotional maturity catch up with the body, we have started to realize that the world is neither our oyster nor our enemy. Rather it is indifferent to our existence.
Finding within that sea of indifference the role that gives meaning to our lives (meaning for us, not for others), finding someone from the ocean of humanity that we can share the journey with, and finding a way of thinking about it all (perhaps a belief system) that helps us to understand what it is all about are probably the best anyone can hope for in this Earthly life.
I would say that as a professional construction manager of rather high regard within the trade (hence the big new job) and a poet of some distinction (even if only to a select group thus far) and a man of strong conviction and faith you have managed quite a lot of this overall task. And there is so much time remaining with which to complete it!
I could say a lot more, but then I would be rambling on too long and you know how much I hate to do that!
Loneliness clouds a lot.
But trust me, I can dissappoint.
I love you sis...
& God Bless you all.
My Bear Family

Thanks and be happy blessed one !!!
I dare ya.
See what I mean about hating to ramble on ad nauseum all the time. Just can't stand people who do that.
Robert's sis
I really wasn't worried about the teddy bear!

Whenever life leads you to a road of dispair, just remember that God is there to carry you through. Like the footprints in the sand.
And, I was impressed with the Langoliers line. I knew right away it was from Steven King. His novels and movies were my favorite growing up. I must have seen the Langoliers movie over fifty dozen times.
Not to mention, Cujo, Carrie, Pet semetary.. The list goes on.
Remeber your friends are out there. And, you have many more good years ahead of you buddy. Don't worry. Enough time to touch us with your words. And, bring us beauty.
You know? I never made it to the end of the movie of "The Langoliers" and never read the book., so never knew what they looked like. Thank you for their description.
The duster you are wearing is way cool. I love those. Particularly if they are a black leather.
PETA and the ASPCA aren't going to be very happy with you about the bear thing. Be careful when you answer your door. It just may be them.
I was trying to get a young lady in Florida to write me back. I sent the photo of the bear and I with the caption: "Write or the bear gets it". It worked. She wrote and the bear's death sentence was commuted to life in La La Land.
You had better acknowledge this post, or else.. I'll kidnap the bear and finish the job.
Just teasing!
