I have a virus (well, my computer does!)

I can't turn my computer on without 400+ popups taking over. 

Ugh.

Myspace is officially banned from our home computer, whether my teenager likes it or not.  We already paid $60 to have viruses removed earlier this year.  I'm not paying it again.  So, currently, I can only get online at work.  :(

hmmm I am on Myspace every day and haven't gotten a virus in the 3 years I've had this computer, good luck with getting all those taken off

Try Spybot and AVG. They are both free programs and work great for getting rid of spyware and viruses. Good luck!

Why did you pay $60.00? Don't you have a virus protection program and keep it up to date? Also, run Spybot. It is free to download and will get rid of all the spyware on your computer. If you don't have an up to date virus protection program on your computer at this moment, you can go to Symantec's website and it will scan your computer for viruses, etc.

I had a virus about a month ago. Run a system restore, that's what fixed mine!

Scanning your computer will just tell you whether you have a virus, not get rid of it. And you already know you have a virus.

Just tell your son to stop downloading files. I don't think you can get a virus just from opening myspace.

I know what you are going through Tabitha. When I lived at home, my younger brother (teen) kept downloading all this crap, and the viruses just wouldn't stay away.

You need pc housecall, ad aware, and spybot, as well as a virus protection program like Symantec. The 1st three are free. Just boot up in safe mode and downloadand or run them on to your computer. This will be a hassle because of the pop ups but it must be done. Run in safe mode and in regular mode, and that should take care of the brunt of the problem as I am assuming most is adware.

Also system restore will work but you need virus and adware protection of some sort.

I've been using myspace since high school with no viruses. Tell your teen to stop clicking on the ads. Those are what causes pop ups mostly. Also get a pop up blocker.

OMG.. that sucks! you definitely need to get a virus protection program on there. don't buy one..use AVG or Avast..they're both free and work better than Symantec or Norton or any of that crap! You may need to get something like Spyware Doctor if those don't work to get rid of them all..That's what I had to use when I got infected with a really nasty browser hijacker a few months back. Try to do like Ashley says, if you can't run them in regular mode because of the popups, try to boot up into safe mode and run them first..and a system restore might help too. I don't think he got them from myspace.. he got them from looking at porn, or downloading files off Limewire or some other warez/file sharing site, more than likely.

I recommend going to www.antivirus.com. Run their free Online Scan, and clean out whatever they find. From there, download a (free) copy of Piriform CCleaner and flush out the old cookies. After that, run an anti-spyware software, such as AdAware by Lavasoft, and/or Spybot Search and Destroy. . . If none of these measures clean up some of the headaches, you will probably have to take it up a notch. . .

Myspace is not your problem.. another problem is using internet explorer to visit any websites... you need to down load and use Mozzilla firefox... it is a search engine just like internet explorer except that viruses meant to get through on IE doe not get through on fire fox...

and i agree with the others ... i run a program called the cleaner, spybot and a few others when i have problems.. and i also use trend micro pccillin... i have been told by a family member who has high credentials that trend micro pccillin is the best virus program out there at this time... and you can use the license on three computers... without extra costs...

but really try using firefox as your web browser from now on.. you will be more pleased that you dont have such troubles anymore...

It isn't MySpace in general, its where you travel in MySpace, specifically. My son likes to hang around and diss on thug/gang pages. He also IM's which have become a quicker way to send to viruses. MySpace has been placed on my "DONOTALLOW" thru PC-cillin).
Also, check under "tools" on explorer and see if pop-up blockers has been checked. You can always go to the "restore" option under system tools and set the restore point back a couple of weeks--you shouldn't lose any documents or data, but you will lose any downloaded software, javascript invasions.
