- percentage of all income gains during the Bush Administration that went to the top 1% of earners: 75%
- Chance that a U.S. home is currently vacant: one in thirty five
- Percentage of U.S. homeowners who reported last year that they had bought a car using a home-equity loan: 27%
- Estimated amount by which the per gallon gas prices would change if the Bush plan to drill the Arctic wildlife refuge were to be carried out: minus four cents
In a masterful stroke of timing, Bush is setting up a small round of troop withdrawals from Iraq for the Fall election season in order to give an electoral assist to his heir apparent McCain. In reality, this is overdue because Afghanistan is falling apart due to our understrength army there, and we are now seeing more U.S. soldiers dying there every month than in Iraq. The soldiers are not going to come home, they are going to need to go to the place they should have been all along after a trillion dollar detour: Taliban country.
When I look at McCain, I do not see a kindler gentler and less stoopid face of american conservatism there. No, I see the inheritor of the Bush "legacy". George will be able to say that his spot in the history books is assured, as he kept the White House in Republican hands. McCain will actually admit that climate change is real, but we need to drill fro more oil now, and use less oil..... someday?! McCain's plan for tax reform will actually increase the earnings of the wealthiest 0.1 percent of americans by around 12% by 2012, while Obama's plan would cut their income by 5%. McCain's plan bothers me, aren't they rich enough yet? Obama's does not worry me; I do not play the lottery so there is no way for me to ever get to that tax bracket.
Please forgive my partisanship here. I have said that not all Republicans are pond scum, and I meant that. Republicans in general are nice people. It's simply that I do not wish to reward the lack of accomplishment of the Bush era. Not if I can help it.

I mean, YAY time is running out !!!
The American voter seldom does that, mostly they vote in a majority of one party, and a President of another.
2000-2005 is, more or less, a fluke.
Very Impressive.
At some point, do you believe you'd be interested in supporting Ron Paul? His ideas seem to be a close match with yours.
Claude: "...interested in supporting Ron Paul?"
Paul's energy policy is to leave things up to judges, which is ineffective in times when government action on this most important issue is needed most. In my view, the most effective way to deal with energy is by means of FeeBates, and the Democrats are more likely to implement such policies.
Eau contraire! VERY impressive!!! It's a cycle, Chris...you know, up, down, up, down...if I were to move every 6 month's, it would do to pay attention; Housing prices will be back up in NO time, and all will be fine...
It is not difficult to atonish anyone who doesn't understand 95% of ANYTHING.
Do you really believe that?
The "main monkey business" is the bad paper sold to illegals, who are defaulting. It'll straighten itself out, as soon as we wake up, be a bit more discerning about our loans, and stop illegal immigration at the border.
There is a saying: you have not converted a man because you have silenced him. It still applies today.
Our economy is in a shambles. I see no saviour on the horizon who will work any miracles. I think that trashing Bush/Cheney is really a waste of time by now; we have bigger worries to deal with.
As for Iraq and Afghanistan, I know what I said when it all started, but I'm just one person who happened to have lived in the Middle East before, and nobody would have consulted me for advice. That's all history now; whatever person gets elected will have to plan the way to deal with the situation in these countries now.
I try to be fair, and I try to leave out the pejoratives. If I failed somewhere there, sorry. I obviously disagree with you strongly on climate change and that will not change until your position does (never?) but that does not mean you are stupid or ill natured, only (in my book) that you are incorrect on that particular topic.
But God only knows it's way past time to consign these losers to the shitcan of history.
I can't say I envy Obama the job of trying to undo the damage that's been done over the past seven and a half years. He's a brave man to be willing to take it on.
By the way, McCain is now talking out of the other side of his mouth about his earlier solid promise to not raise taxes, no matter what. (He's leaving open the possiblity of increasing Social Security payroll taxes on those of us who work for a living.) So, if you enjoyed Dick and Dubya's culture of duplicity you'll love "four more years" of the same.
As for the next President - Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome. So I really hope Obama wins this election. I think he is the only one with the stregnth and intelligence who can start cleaining up this mass and putting us back on the path to recover our country.
You might enjoy this....Bush trashing, his Bombshell tell all is coming out!!!
