DO NOT CALL LIST

For those that are tired of sales calls, here is a link to get at least some of them stopped. https://www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx

All you need to do when a sales person calls is ask them to remove your name from the list. I used to do telemarketing so I know that if you ask to be removed they have to do it.

Ginny, the recorded ones normally have a # to call back. If they can't speak English, I try telling them to remove my name & hang up. Hope this helps.

I registered there a few years ago and was amazed at how much it cut down on annoying sales calls. It doesn't help with companies you already have service contracts with (your cable company can still call to try to sell you new and different services) but it still makes a huge difference.

All the people that call us we've done business with sometime recently which means they have the right to call even if you are on the do not call list :(

We had our phones taken off the list telemarketers call on, but we still get 'courtesty' calls.

My parents don't get hardly any calls but I get telemarketers who will call my cell phone at 8:30 in the morning. It drives me nuts! Thanks for the information.

Here is another tip for you: I registered on the do not call list a long time ago and when I do get occasional calls from numbers I don't recognize I head to 800notes.com to check the unknown number. It's a free, public reverse lookup. The other day I got two calls from the same number and no message, I went to http://800notes.com/ and there was already 4 pages of comments from people getting similar calls. Turned out it's a telemarketer with a recording. So, it's safe to ignore.

Yes, I have tried that before, but I can only get "please, remove" or "please stop" out of my mouth before they hang up on me.

It helps, but does not stop them. Many just ignore it, and get rude when I tell them I am on the Don't call list.

Sorry folks for those who think the do not call list works. You can not put your name on a list that says do not call. As soon as you buy something answer a survery fill out a rebate offer you are put right back on the list. My name is on the so called do not call list and I get called anyway. nice to think it would work but sorry folks

I put all my phones and cell phones on the do not call list. But I guess it has worn off. They are beginning to call again. You can not tell those electronic ones not to call back or take you off the list.
I was told if you just set the phone down and let them [the recorder] play and dont hang up until the operator comes on and says either hang or up or dial your number again. That it will throw your number off their electronic list. I dont know if it works but I do it anyway.l

I just got one about fifteen minutes ago. As soon you pick up the receiver, a recording comes on. I didn't even have to say a word.. I did a reverse phone look up, and of course its not listed...

When you do get on the do not call list, you have to reregister every couple of years. Recently when I was getting ready to move I got a reminder card to call in and reregister, but I forgot about it as I was involved in packing to movel I got a call form a telemarketer the last day I had my phone on. Oh well, it gives me some satisfaction that they will all be wasting a phone call calling that number which is now disconnected. Thanks for the info about the 800 number lookup. I will make use of that.
