Thought Provoking Question for Today

This is akin to all the discussion questions that I have posted in the post, but today I want to present you with a series of thought provoking questions.  Feel free to answer in the comments or give your thoughts.

Do you ever feel that the rules don't apply to you?  For example, do you ever take food into the movie theater when it clearly says no outside food or drink?  Do you obey the speed limit?  Are there any other rules that you break?  Why?  How do you feel about others who break the rules?

I've brought snacks/drinks into theaters before, and I think its the smart thing to do because its a sort of rebellion against retardedly high prices for pops/snacks there... so if you have something, bring it! ;D

Okay I don't break all rules. BUt I have borken some. I learned along time ago ruiles are made for two reasons. One is to be followed and the other is to be broken.

I have taken my own food in to the movie theaters. It is pretty bad when a family of five can not go to the movies under 50 bucks.

I don't do theatre, and I don't drive anymore, but as to the general question, I feel that if more people became responsible citizens then we wouldn't need rules. Free will is a gift.

I'd have to say I pretty much stick with the rules....I usually drive a little under the speed limit or right at...I don't take food into the theatre....I think it depends entirely on what rules we are talking about... :o)

I am usually a rule follower, however, I have been know to bring a candy bar in to a movie theater before. But I buy their rediculasly over priced and should be illegal to charge that much sodas, so I think it balances out.

I don't go often, but don't bring anything in either. I also don't buy their snacks. Seeing one movie, and with most movies around an hour and a half today.... I have no need.
Oh for the old days of two movies on the cheap...... ;-)
Because of food allergies and preferences, if I want to snack during movies, I bring my own. I don't do dairy or corn syrup and most places don't offer any alternatives. We do have a theatre that will order sandwiches and pizza from down the street and have it delivered for customers. They also have a great selection of beers on tap and independent lable drinks. I buy from them.

Rules and laws are so different. Laws have harsh consequences. Rules - well if they're fair to every, sure, I'll go along, but if it's just some controlling b.s. like a dress code- forget it!

I'm a rule follower. When my son was little, we either went out to eat right before the movie or right afterwards. And the most I've ever gone over the speed limit was 4 miles.

Sometimes, I just like to hear what people have to say... If you want my opinion here it is:

If no one followed the rules everything would be chaos. Of course none of us are pefect.

As far as the movie theater, I think that that's were theaters make there money is off of the concessions... I don't think it's right to take food in. If you think the price is too high... go without buying food. Yeah it stinks, but there are rules for a reason.

I follow most rules.. there has to be rules and most are made for a reason. As far as bringing stuff into a theater, I will sometimes bring in stuff.. but I usually buy at least a soda..and usually popcorn or nachos.. so they still get their money out of me.. Even though it's ridiculously expensive, buying the popcorn and soda is just part of the "movie experience" for me.. even though if I watch movies at home, I don't eat usually while i watch..in a theater it's just not the same without it. But I wont pay 2.00 for a box of Junior Mints or something I can get for 1.00 or under at the store.

Sometimes I have broken them. It's not that I don't believe in them its just it is unrealistic to think you can live a rigid life in a very unpredicatable and flexible world.

I haven't brought food into a theater in a long time. As far as speeding goes, I think I speed every single day - I have a lead foot. I know that's bad, but I know it's there and I try to control it. I have a patience problem. :) It's not a rule thing with me - I'm not trying to rebel - I just don't have the patience to sit in traffic and such. That's why I usually end up speeding.

I think it depends on the situations. If the rules are for the general good of the community I follow them without thinking twice. But if the rules are just for one person or corporations uneeded gain, then I'll break small rules.

I have brought stuff to the movie theaters because the price of their stuff is absolutely outrageous. You may pay 30 to take the family to the movies but the snacks will cost you $50 more. So I think if they cut their prices then more people would not have to sneak. I have also drove a little too fast but I try not to. I think everyone breaks a rule here and there but if you get caught then you should pay the consequences without whining!

I generally don't break rules. It's been so long since I've gone to the theatre, but I generally buy my snacks there (love the popcorn, and I buy their reusable cup at the beginning of the year--refills anytime, $1) Now what I have done with my son is sneak into a second feature !!! Speed limit? I honor it -- in fact traffic law is one thing I'm a stickler for.

Now that I am older and wiser, I try to obey the speed laws. But when I was younger, well, let's just say that "I couldn't drive 55!" LOL

It's not so much that I don't think they apply to me, it's more like I choose to disobey them. I am not going to pay $5 for a pack of M&Ms that I can get for 50 cents a block away.
I try to obey the speed limit, and ot some extent I do get out of it, since my boyfriend is a cop and I know a fair amount of the people who would be pulling me over(and wouldn't ticket me as my boyfriend is their superior), however due to gas prices, I tend to drive the speed limit just to conserve money.

I can't think of other rules that I break, but I'm sure there are plenty. I was never a color in between the lines kind of kid, and that's followed through in my adult life as well.

Wow, your hurting me! We buy water and popcorn at the theater, but I am guilty as charged of going over the speed limit. I try not to be crazy about it but I do go faster than posted at times so if I am honest I have to say guilty as charged to the second crime!

I am diabetic so sometimes I take something I can eat to the movies but mostly I just eat a little popcorn and take a sip of hubby's drink. I prefer to drive within the speed limits when I drive and am guilty of sometimes being in the "5 miles over" crowd on a really fast interstate transit. I never smoked so I never violated that rule. I used to keep a piece of gum in my mouth when I was singing in a choir because my throat was always so dry-mouthed but I never chewed it unless it was during a prayer or going in or out of the choir loft. I am pretty much a stickler for rules and once they are stated, I try to apply and adhere. Therefore, I am pretty boring and straight-laced.

I have brought outside candy into the theaters before in my child's diaper bag.
That stuff is way too expensive!

I like to think that I follow the rules. But then some of them, like no food in the theater, are just plain silly. I understand that this is where they make their money, but they have priced themselves out of my range. But most of the time I follow the rules. Peace

i used to break every rule back in the day but now i try to follow all the rules and i think to each their own as to what others are doing unless it is someone like my husband,

I am so much a "big old donkey Girl Scout", as they used to say on Designing Women, that I do, indeed, follow the rules. That doesn't necessarily mean I don't look for ways to do things that the rule makers just haven't thought of yet, but I do follow the existing rules for the most part.

The only thing that drives me crazy is people who drive as if there are no traffic laws.

It seems like most of us here are rule breakers, and the movie theatres know this. I used to work at one, and they told me to fill up the cup with 2/3 ice! I am not paying $4.50 for a cup of ice!

I generally am a rule-follower by nature [breaking them taught me the hard way, that it's not the road to take in life--especially if you are NOT white] but there are occasions that I will break them just becuase I think the rule or the person trying to inforce the rule, is an idiot or are assine in their attitude....and those instances are generally ones involving hospitals and or visitors hours or "next in line" mentality while you've waited over a hour---then I jump and jump hard.

I always have good intentions to follow the speed limit but I almost always end up going over. I haven't taken food into a movie theater in a long time but if I was on a budget I would. I don't know if it is really a rule or not but it bugs the crap out of me when people walk in the exit door. STOP DOING THAT!!

I didn't know it wasn't okay to bring your own food into the movie theater... I mean, I've never seen a sign or anything that said it wasn't okay... I've never brought my own food in, though, not because I thought there was a rule against it but because it seems like a huge hassle to carry around a bunch of stuff. I virtually ALWAYS go faster than the posted speed limit, however... Here in CA where we have TONS of cars and the most horrible traffic in the nation, it would be silly to do otherwise... Virtually every highway patrol officer I've ever asked about it told me that they expect people will go from 5 to 10 miles per hour over the speed limit and that, due to the sheer number of cars on the road at any one time here in the Bay Area, it would be impractical to enforce the "1 car length for every 10 mph of speed" rule, as well...
