Recently my sister introduced me to indie/pop musician Maria Mena from Norway.
Her voice is stunning, her lyrics are hard-hitting, and she just plain makes you think... some songs on her album Apparently Unaffected are upbeat tracks you'd want to take on a roadtrip with some girlfriends, or maybe use as a shopping soundtrack. Others are great for crying in your room alone about that lost lover or that bad day. Still others are good for a men-bashing chocolate fest with your best girls.
A versatile artist, Mena struggled with depression when she was younger, and is named after Maria in West Side Story (she has a brother named Tony). Her mother is a playwright.
I encourage you to check out a sampling of her music. I doubt you'll be disappointed.
