On Saturday my husband's car broke down, so he had my car today. A friend took me for my dental appointment. It took longer to numb me than it did to do the fillings. While examining the situation the dentist decides he's miscalculated which tooth needs fixed and changes his strategy. The billing clerk wasn't impressed. shrug.
So I get home and start to call around for estimates to have our shower redone. There's a hole punched in the tile. Our daughter's boyfriend slipped and put his butt through it. I digress. I call the closest place, given the price of gas and all, and he says he's booked out 6 wks.
Me - That's okay when can I get an estimate.
Contractor - Well, are you sure you don't want to try someone else?
Me - I need three estimates for insurance. When can you come?
Contractor - Well if you can't get a third to come I will.
Blank stare. Me - Gas is 4.25 a gallon. We are fifteen miles out of town. You live a mile from me. I can wait. When can you give me an estimate?
Contractor - Call me tonight when I have my date book.
Me - Thank you.. hangs up. Has similar conversation with two more contractors.. I must not speak contractor.
Call husband to tell him the local mechanic can take his car on Tuesday.
Husband - How's he going to get it over there?
Me, huh? - It's up to us to get it over there.
Husband - Yeah, right. So we can take over tonight after work?
Me - No, he's busy today. We can take it tomorrow.
Husband - Well I think I'll have time to take it tonight.
Howling in my head, Me - We'll discuss it when you get home.
--------Apparently I don't speak husband either.
I went into town to meet with friends. Somehow lost my mind and left my purse unattended. Someone stole my wallet. This is not my day. Police were called. Banks called. Driver's license must be taken care of, after husband's car is fixed.. hang my head. Could this day get any worse?
I'm driving home on a strip of state highway near a dam. A flashy light and a cry for help waft into my window. Huh? Someone said help. I can't forget I heard it. What to do?
I could call the State Patrol (my phone wasn't cool enough to steal) but that would take onwards of an hour. Then I think.. what are the chances of getting car jacked and stolen from in the same night?.. This isn't a major metro area.. pretty slim. I turn around.
My doors are locked, window at a slit (I'm not totally without brains) and ask if they are all right.
Two young men were canoeing. They brought a truck down river to haul themselves and the canoes back to town. Problem? They left the keys for the truck in the car they took the canoes to the river in. Twenty or so miles up stream. And I thought I had it bad.
I passed them the cell phone through the slit and they called a friend for help. I drove home my faith in the goodness of people somewhat restored. Husband was so upset about the missing wallet, I decided not to tell him about the two guys.
Life is strange some days. I couldn't possibly make this stuff up.

Here's some more chocolate. Chocolate makes everything better. Better yet, give some to DH. maybe it will help him listen with his ears, lol!
I got all of my cards back.. driver's licence, insurance so on and so forth. Those were the things I really didn't want to deal with. It's all good.
Not great, but glad things turned out better rather than worse. Having a Half-Full Day. can't you tell? :)
