Graduation photo contest on Boomertowne - am I a cheater?

I joined BT the end of June. I submitted a photo of my mom for the July graduation photo contest. Some people on BT are upset over it and are referring to me as a cheater. BT approved the picture, so how is it cheating?

This is part of the response I posted on BT regarding being a cheater -

"Okay, so I am one of those dumb people that cannot follow the rules. I posted an 8th grade graduation picture of my mom from 1934. That was her graduation! My mom is 87 and when I told her, I entered her graduation photo, in a contest, she was excited, and I helped her join BT so that she could enjoy all the photos.

When I read the contest rules, I took it that the theme was graduation and that any graduation photo would be fine. Now, after reading all of your complaints, I took a closer look at the instructions. All of you are correct; it does say "your graduation photo."

My personal opinion is the graduation theme could be for anyone, not just you and if BT wanted only self-graduation photos then they should reject the photos that do not meet the proper criteria."

I offered at the time to redraw my entry. The person complaining didn't see why I should. People are still complaining.

This is the picture I submitted for the contest. The picture is my mom's profile picture on BT.

My question is - do you think I should withdraw the photo from the contest? Please give me you honest opnions. Thank you very much.

I have no idea what the rules are. It's a great photo, and people are probably pissed because it is such a great photo. Do what you think is right.

If you really are not sure what to do. Just contact BT and explain it to them. They will tell you if the picture needs to go or not. Until you hear from BT I would not worry.

You aren't claiming that it's your own ... so you can't be cheating. I would tell them to deal and keep your picture in the contest.

I wouldn't worry about it. I'm not sure it has to be our very own graduation. I entered a picture of my daughter's 8th grade graduation myself. Why? Because no woman in my family has ever graduated from high school so, the closest I could get was my daughter's 8th grade graduation picture. Unless Boomertowne themselves say something to you, forget the comments that you are "cheating" Seriously, they are jealous. Your mom's picture is cool!

No you shouldn't withdraw it. If BT approved it and said it was ok to post a graduation photo, I don't understand why people are complaining. Your mothers graduation picture is very good, odds are they're jealous.

I would think your pic would be fine. Now, it's my opinion that I have no clue WHY BT says your photo has to be approved (other than it might be porn) as the may contest was fir FIRST birthday pictures and there were TONS that were newborn pics, and pics of older children. I would much rather post a pic of my mom's graduation picture than my own....haven't decided if I am going to or not. If you would, ping me your and your mom's BT names and I will vote for the picture and make sure both of you are on my friends list.

I think it's a great photo. Voting on the picture is a choice, and those who are whining have other options. The fact that theirs isn't as cool isn't your problem. Boomertowne approved it, so they don't really have much recourse. Leave it and let it win!

I'd contat BT myself, now that you realize that you did not follow the rules explicitdly. As they only are looking at Pics to approve or not for those nasty photos that ight get through, they are not specifically looking tosee if it followed the rules. that was the genreral answer I got last month when I talked to BT myself over an issue.

Just happened to see this article. I agree that you should definitely NOT withdraw the picture. People have posted all sorts of graduation pictures that are NOT of themselves - a child, a relative, a friend.

Last month with the video contest, there was a TOTALLY unrelated video that BT left up on the contest, though they did delete a few others.

It's a great picture and I love it!

If it wasn't acceptable then the people running the contest should have declined it. I think it's fine. Boy, I'm kind of glad that I haven't looked into that site yet.

You're definitely not the only one who posted a picture of someone else's graduation. I've seen children, grandchildren, parents, etc. So I wouldn't worry about the complainers. I've even seen a college graduation or two when the instructions said high school. So I think it's all open to interpretation. Your photo is wonderful.

If BT approved the photo, their opinion is the one that counts. ;( I would say don't worry about the complainers. Very nice photo.

What a bunch of jerks...DON"T PULL YOUR PIC. The only reason they are squawking is because of the info written on pic. I was the BTer who originally requested a photo contest of BTVoice, way back when they had open chats. It is not at all what I had envisioned when I requested it, but many folks seem to like it. I hate to say it but BT has sure been plagued by some bad apples the last few months. Ignore them.

Well I sent them an email and the response back was they were not looking specifically at the photo meeting the rules; they leave that up to the community to inform them if the photo is approriate for the contest and in my humble opinion since the title of the contest is "YOUR HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION" And it further states
Your high school graduation may seem like a distant memory, so take a trip back down memory lane. Check out your old hairstyle, stylish clothing and everything that makes your old photos so great. Then submit the photo of you to the BoomerVision Pictures Contest and show your fellow BoomerTowne friends your favorite graduation picture - don't be shy.

BT said if it does not fit then they hope the community will hit the abuse button which states they tell me that once they here from the community that it is not a legitimate submission they check into it and if it does not fit the rules it will be eliminated from winning. They also told me that they are looking into several photos that were submitted that did not even fit the title. Below iswhat it states when you send an abuse report
Abuse Description Thank you for helping keep BoomerTowne clutter free and ensuring all content is relevant and legitimate. Please describe the abuse in as much detail as possible so that we can follow up and take appropriate action.

Don't delete though until you here fro mBT yourself!!!! But know that they did tell me that they are looking into some photos not meeting the description. So I am sure they are on top of it.

I would not worry though as your photo is indeed "an old hairstyle, stylish clothing and everything that makes your old photos so great..... it is also "your favorite graduation picture - " and it is your photo just not of you. So let BT decide and not anyone else.

I saw your photo on there and I voted for you. I don't think it violates rules. It states post your favorite graduation picture. If that is your favorite picture then I would say you are in compliance. A lot of others seem to agree with me becasue you are among the top three so far. I wouldn't worry about anyone elses's complaints. If BT thinks your entry is invalid they will tell you. Until they do leave it. It would be a shame if you pulled your picture off and then later saw someone elses mother's picture win. You are not a cheater. The only way it would be cheating is if you claimed the picture was you. You were honest about who it was.

I think it should be any grad photo. I mean... who can prove that theirs is truly a pic of themselves? Really, if you hadn't said it was your mom no one would be complaining and GRIPING about it. I'd try not to worry about it... what's the big deal? People will complain about anything!
