Is that finger flipping off the moon? In that case I just might stare........and join in. Am a bit disgruntled with these "new and improved" changes. If I wanted a social network I'd go out into my livingroom. I thought Gather was about writing???
I don't think the finger is pointing, I think it is attempting to touch the moon in order to touch the universe. We know we are part of something so large it is often incomprehensible but we, like children, think if we can touch something it becomes part of what we can have. Children just want to touch and identify something as real and the child in us never dies if we are lucky...
Kim, your gather is still about writing. That hasn't changed.
I think of gather as a series of interlocking neighborhoods. We can have excellent writing streets (and we do) and how They change the public transportation doesn't effect our streets much when you stop to stink about it.
(OK, it's 4:30 am and I have not yet reached peak mental performance. That should read "When you stop to think about it," but the phrase "stink about it" seems appropriate as well :)
Maintain objectivity and see the world (or the moon in this case) by standing in other people's "shoes" Scout standing on Boo Radley's porch gave her a different perspective. :)
Point is get your priority straight when you see something wonderous in life. I could spend time trying to figure out how the moon came to be or enjoy the moon?
I liked Donna's comment for this. Keeping the inner child aliveand awake is so much more important than any self-gratifyinf actions we take. Oh the wonder of it all!
I don't point....I bath in the glow of the moon with my face looking upward.... far far away and appreciate... Think and stink...lol from earlier post above such an appropriate slip...
It's currently unfair if you are richer than me, unfair if you are smarter than me and mostly definitely unfair for you to hit my little Tommie with the dodgeball, even if that is the point of the game.
(I swear I didn't see this Byte as speaking to mediocrity initially. I see it now — and it gave me an excuse to throw out a mini-rant.)
I get it now. If you want to shoot for the moon you have to go outside yourself, so to speak. I guess"think outside the box for a better perspective" would be an anology.
Something like that anyway
Oh, and how dare you use gather for your own personal use! Ha! Ha! I couldn't resist!
Isn't is a great thing that there is a place for everyone here on Gather? We can write just about on any topic, we can socialize and network, we can read to our hearts content, I love it!
I like the picture. The sky is a fascinating place full of wonder.
The moon is cold and lacks sensation, unlike my finger, which is linked through an amazing network of nerves to a human brain of some sort, a brain that boggles both at the finger and the awesome (overused word) night sky. That we can point at the moon at all is a source of epistemological wonder. Then of course there is the metaphor that reminds me of a line from Oscar Wilde: "We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars."

I'm sure there is an underlying meaning here, but alas, it's late
And it is late. Have a good night.
I really expected to see E.T. on his bike reaching down to embrace Elliot's finger.
That is Elliot's finger... isn't it?
In either case; Bravo John!

Myopia can be a human condition. And pointing an exercise in futility.
Definitely a major part of this Byte, Pat. Take it a step further.
(You guys got to the coffee way before I did today).
Cute, Carol.
(The +/- sign has nothing to do with my comment. I must have slipped on a key. I didn't even know I could do that.)
No, that's your finger.
(Back to the drawing board)

As long as one of us knows, Violette, we're OK.
You're right, Robert, I had no idea.
But I saw your photos and all I can say is "WOW" back at you.
(link above in Robert's comment)
:)
I wasn't thinking about standing in others shoes and that's a most excellent build.
Thanks.
And not just something wonderous, Bert.
Think and stink...lol from earlier post above such an appropriate slip...
Glad to know someone is still looking up and out instead of striving for mediocrity as others seem to do these days.
This is the beauty of Thought~Byte threads, Barbara. I didn't see that at all — until you pointed it out with your finger.
Thanks.
And — what's most important in Thought~Bytes — is seeing a connection that has value for you.
That, Jennifer, would be what we in the Byte Biz call "the moon in the moment." :)
It's currently unfair if you are richer than me, unfair if you are smarter than me and mostly definitely unfair for you to hit my little Tommie with the dodgeball, even if that is the point of the game.

But unless your finger is a lot more attractive than mine, it gets a little boring after a while.
Something like that anyway

I like the picture. The sky is a fascinating place full of wonder.
Something like that is definitely one of the key aspects of this Byte.
"The sky is a fascinating place full of wonder."
And so is your finger.
LOL
Karen
Thanks for pointing it out.
I'd say much of it came from this group.

Good thinking — but it might give somebody a headache.
Wasn't me, K D. That headache came from down under.
Wait, maybe that wasn't you.
Very nice
A perfect fit for this Byte.
Thanks.
If you concentrate on your finger, the moon doesn't seem as big! (Just my two cents!)
