Angel's Author's Cafe Goes Green

Angel's Author's Cafe has gone green.  We have completely redone the building and the grounds.....  You will notice that the back of the cafe has been earth bermed and that the roof is now a solar array....  The windmills outback will supply additional power.  We now make more power than we use... but that goes into the grid to supply power to others, so it is not wasted....

All rain is captured and stored underground to be used to water the garden which has been expanded to provide even more fresh produce for us.... most ground covers have been replaced with herbs... like thyme.. which repells insects and fleas.... 

Leaf blowers have been banished.... permantly....

You will notice that the lawn is longer and it will be kept that way.... a longer lawn acts as Nature's evaporative cooler and helps keep the building cool.... it also needs less water....  so we will only mow half as often and keep the grass at the 4" length recommended as optimum for conservation.  At that length it also shades the ground and helps keep things cooler....  additionally it ties up more carbon in biomass assisting in carbon seqestering.... Every square inch of biomass helps absorb CO2 out of the air and return O2 into the air....  Our lawn will remain on the long side...  Our bushes and trees will be pruned minimally and every square inch will be planted with something lush and hopefully edible... Herbs and wildflowers will be planted in cycles so that as one dies down another springs forth to take its place.

Mowing will be done with a mulching mower and any excess mulch, trimmings and vegetation as well as vegetable kitchen garbage will go into the composter....

In the back lot is an experimental project that I will tell you about later....

In celebration of our Going Green...  we are having a Southern Comfort Americana combined menu offering today....  We also have a salad bar that is all organic produce and several specials featuring Seafood from our sustainable fisheries in Alaska and Maine.....   yummm  crab, king crab, salmon, turbot, cod, halibut, clams, lobster..... all cooked any way you want it.... and specials featuring American Bison..... steaks, chops, burgers, roasts, stews.... just ask and we will make it with Bison.... 

So pull up a chair... carved from renewable American forest wood and make yourself at home...
