Oh how I long for the good old days of the Cold War, Communism Vs Democracy, the USSR Vs the Good Ole US of A.During the time of the Great Soviet Republic and the Berlin Wall, there was always a tense understanding between the U.S. and Soviet Union, you bomb us, and we will bomb you. It was simple and clear.
Now that is a thing of the past, as the Muslim Nation of Iran, gets closer and closer to becoming one the few Nuclear Powers. When the USSR was ruled by military logic, Iran is ruled by religious leaders that follow a doctrine that call for the total destruction of the US and our close alley Israel.
How can you negotiate with a country that Government is built upon the idea that any non Muslim must be exterminate? How can you compromise with a Nation's leaders whose whole mindset is destroying all Christians any way you can?
Answer; you can't.
I rather be dealing with a hard core rabid Communist, than a Muslim Extremist in Cleric Robes. One you can intellectually guess what he will do in a given situation the other will kill you simply for naming your Teddy Bear, Mohammad.

against my principles, sorry.
LIFE ON THE RESERVATION I appreciate that Juan.
By contrast Iran could be taken out by single nuke on Tehran and I suspect we would not be the the only major power to contemplate such action. Russia, China, India and Pakistan are all closer to Iran than we are and would not look kindly on such a close neighbor using its nuclear muscle.

How can you deal with such a regime?
In retrospect we may have been much more secure, but having been present in an area were the civil defense warning system went off by mistake during the Cuban Missile Crisis I am not sure we were as much secure as resigned to inevitability of total nuclear war. Having concluded that the inevitable had happened I walked down five flights of stairs and onto the street in the middle of the night. There I found dozens of other people calmy waiting for what we had concluded was inevitable.
