Favre - What are you thinking??

I have been reading about Brett Favre, my son's hero,

coming out of retirement and possibly going to another team????

What is up with him?

I hope he will stay retired on his ranch in Mississippi and protect his legacy

he worked seventeen years for.

I know he wants to play, and I respect that, but he wants to go with another team, after 17 years with the Packers.

I hope he doesn't "unretire". It is usually a mistake for pro athletes to do that. I say quit at the top of your game.

Part of me says he should stay a Packer, there's the other part that says he should stay home. He's been a pretty good role model and not been in any trouble since he went pro. It is hard to leave something you've been familar with. If he does come back, it should be as a Packer.

Don, That's the whole point of my article. Why???? You are so right Kerrell and Apryl, he has been a great role mode, broken so many records...leave it alone and bow out gracefully. I know he has the right to choose what he wants to make him happy but I guess it has so much to do with my son. He would be so upset if he knew about Favre contemplating not being a Packer. I am just surprised.

IDK, what's going on with him either Carol. sounds like a stupid choice to me...Must be someone behind this other than just him and family.... why take the risk of getting hurt really bad...

Brett don't do it! He's going to pay physically for it anyway but will pay more if he plays longer. Bradshaw is now paying a price, so is Namath and Earl Campbell Hall of Fame running back is now on a cane because of nerve damage to his leg.

Taking all those hits over the years will catch up with him and the more hits- all the more to catch up with Brett when it all said and done. Don't do it Brett!

Sometime with great athletes it hard to leave what you love. I think of Muhammad Ali who should have retired 5 yrs before he did and now is paying a tremendous price with his health and well being.

I agree Brian. It's like they don't know when to stop. I do understand he loved the game, that's one of the reasons I am a huge fan. But you gotta know when to go home. He has done too good and come so far to mess up now.

I am slowly losing respect for him. Make a decision and stick with it. Enough of the I am going to retire I''m not going to retire. This is setting a bad example for some kids in that they will think the world will revolves around them and that there are no consequences for the decisions they make. In the real world you can't always change your mind and expect that people will cater to your every want.

Brett messed up - if he was this unsure about retiring, he should have talked to management to keep his options open. Aaron Rogers is getting jerked around, plus I think this will be a distraction to the Packers. The only thing going for them is they are in a weak division- the Bears and Lions are awful, the Vikings are depending on a hot-cold quarterback, so the Pack should win the NFC North, but I have a feeling they"re going to be a #3 0r #4 seed in the playoffs.

I am still in shock that Favre would do this. I heard hesitation in his voice when he retired, but he's a big boy and he should have thought it through.

Janet, I just posted a recent link about Favre. No official word yet. He did not show up at training camp today. He is trying to get traded...we will see what happens.

I couldn't agree more. He has all but ruined his legacy even at this point. He is fast becoming the typical pro athlete that has a HUGE ego and no real concern for anyone other than themselves. This has been a tragic mistake for what was previously a great career and role model. It's sad.

The team has moved on, Bret; I would suggest you do as well.

I would also like to see you in our first ever head-to-head fantasy football league over at NFL.com. If he comes back, he will pull a Montana (one of my all time faves) and a Michael Jordan. They really screwed with their reps and their numbers. I say, Brett, we love ya, but stay retired, don't mess with your rep and numbers, stay retired. Let us remember you the way you went out. (we will forget about that little screwup in the playoffs, man - we're all human).

God, that's horrible. I can't imagine that kind of loss or pain. I'm so sorry to hear of that, Carol. I have four boys....29 y/o, 15, 14 and 10. I would probably have a mental meltdown should I lose one of them. They have all become such a huge part of who I am as a man; the loss would be staggering and perhaps too much to bear. I admire your strong nature, darlin'. No parent should ever live longer than their children.

Well, as I said earlier....I think if your son loved playing fantasy football, he would love it even more, knowing that his Mom now plays in his stead. Ya know?

I witnessed the fatal gunshot. I still don't understand why God allowed this to happen.

But you are right, Dustin would love for his Mom to be playing fantasy football. We used to throw the ball in the backyard. I always told him he threw like Favre...he would light up when I said that. Memories.
