The Gather Yard Sale is a way to draw attention to decent articles that are quickly buried in Games and Point Counts, or Coupons, or fraudulent internet "fact sheets".
No one ever goes back to look at earlier Yard Sales, but I always provide a selection of articles from the past.
The Gather Yard Sale for the First Sunday in July

Treasures & Trash at the Gather Sale
As one might expect on a Sunday in Mid-summer, there are no themes to the selections this week.
Lots of good writing in many categories.
Faithful readers will recognize immediately that I have included more "light-reading" in this "beach book" Yard Sale.
I am invoking the perogatives of a member of the Wimsey family, whose crest proclaims "As My Whimsy Takes Me".
Anything marked "SOLD"merits, I believe, a look.

This is the first article by a Gather member. It is a very thoughtful and courageous piece of writing about the realization of peace in the Middle East.

It is really a public notice or commerical for the uninformed views of someone desperate to be taken seriously.

My Grandpa...Like I Never Knew Him
Working in a military records office, an amateur genealogist finds and restores a picture of a beloved grandfather.

How should Congress punish Rove?
This is a very slim article, but the title suggests that it might become a creative and amusing comment thread.

Have You Ever Dated Some Gorgeous Flake Just to Get Some?
A Response to other Gather articles about "intelligence" being sexy. I thought the clever title would inspire more recollections. Could be posted to any number of groups related to "relationships", social justice, or the Universal Secret Law of Attraction.

This is a great illustraton of my belief that the solution to most idiotic behavior on Gather is to write about it.
This amusing account describes the whirlwind "courtship" of this Gather woman by a man who professed love and offered marriage on the second day. Her sleuthing about the clues that "did not add up" is enjoyable.
(Note: in 24 hours, this piece attracted more than a hundred comments -so it is not "overlooked"!)

There were a half-dozen yesterday when I noted it for the Yard Sale!
But, I loved the photo of "Grandpa".
The article was low on the "what are they thinking" scale, but the writer demonstrated caution and prudence.
Matt Lupo wrote the funniest faux naive account of his internet "relationship".
Matt's comments alone used to kill me. He used to go to the "Guess this celebrity" articles and leave a long string of "guesses", all of which would show up in my comment feed.
Thanks for the hard work. Reading these keeps me from giving gross answers on the games threads.
A woman has to amuse herself you know.
Absolutely, Sharon.
I hope that you aren't giving up "gross anwers" completely.
There are a lot of "articles" that deserve them.
I had the same experience.
It is just a guess, but I suspect that his participation may have related to his book and the First Chapters contests.
You are very welcome, libramoon.
I'm glad that it is useful to a few folks.
Thank you kind sir for you work is this area.
