Mini-vacations seem to be the most economical way to go this year. Money is tight and gas is expensive too. There was a time when it was easy to jump in your car on a whim and drive off for a 2 or 3 day venture. With gas prices at $4 a gallon or more, it is costly and we tend to stay closer to home.
Lately we have been doing so much for others that we have neglected ourselves. We decided to take some time just for the two of us. We are driving to the beach this weekend. The drive is about 3 1/2 hours one way. If we leave early in the morning we will avoid the heavy traffic. The drive itself is peaceful and quite enjoyable.
We often to to a beach where you pay $10 to park your car. There is a pavillion with showers, restrooms, and a snack bar. The beach gets a little busy, but we really don't mind it. We would rather have the comfort of having restrooms nearby to being on a beach where there are none. The beach that is only 4 miles from the motel we booked doesn't have restrooms or a place to park.
A day at the beach is so therapeutic for me. Life tends to bog you down even when you are having a good time. Worries weave cobwebs in your brain and your thoughts become muddled. The sound of the ocean clears my mind. The warmth of the sand between my toes is delightful. I am at peace.
We need to remember to take time for ourselves. Although times are rough and money is tight, you need to take time to enjoy life. Indeed we would love to take an extended holiday that would last a week or more. But, even a day or two is better than none.

Beach mini vacations are a great thing.
I know exactly what you mean. We love taken little "time outs" at the beach. It just clears the mind.
I live one house away from a beach and forget how difficult it can be for others to get there. I just take it for granted. I learned a big lesson about that this year that I haven't posted, yet..
Sun, sand and water are good for the soul.
Good memories are the kind to try to make time for.
When I celebrate my birthday.
Mine is the 25th. And, my son Matthew has one on the 22nd.
Unfortunately I don't see myself at a beach, not anymore. :(
Love ya's Mom
