Our deck was needing some repairs done to it. The entire railing was getting wobbly & the previous owners used trellis material (don't know what it is called), to fill in the space from top railing to bottom railing - not very safe.
So since we have put our house on the market, we figured it would sell better if we had made this repair done. We went to Lowe's and bought all of the wood for the job & 1 hot day (they are all hot here), my Husband tore out the old railing, burned it, and started on the new railing. The old railing was not treated wood either - so that is probably why it didn't last that long.

Here is a good view of the damage that was happening to the old deck.

This picture - above - is showing the deck after we removed all the old railing that was damaged.

Partial de-construction!

This is what we did with the old deck railing! It made a nice fire.

A close-up of the new slats of the deck railing. We did not like the old design, so we came up with a new one that we liked much better.

The nice railing. We kept the original supports, as they were in great condition, just they were white, so I had to re-paint them white & nows they stand out a little.

A view of the deck, showing part of my deck furniture set. I have the furniture so half is under the covered portion of the deck & half in the sunshine.
It only took us a Saturday to get the entire new railing put up. I helped with the spacing of the slats. My husband did all of the cutting & nailing. He even bought a new nail gun to make it easier.
We are so happy with the way the deck turned out. In the fall we might paint the rest white, so the railings don't stand out so much. It just depends if the house sells or not....

And don't you just have such a sense of accomplishment after doing it yourself?
