Awesome Arizona Monsoons
Photos taken with a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8.
This is my favorite time of year in Arizona. The intense heat during the day drives me crazy and all I want to do is sit at home with the cooler running, but later in the day you can watch the clouds build from little floaters to huge, menacing-looking clouds that build higher and higher in the sky. The higher they build the more thunder and lightning they put out. Then soon the skies darken and hopefully there is a little rain.
My favorite part of living in Payson and visiting my property in Snowflake is watching the monsoon storms. The lightning is awesome but the thunder is even better. Living up higher in the mountains the thunder booms even louder and feels so much closer. The ground and the body vibrate with the sound. It's really incredible.
Tonight Robert and I went and chased down a storm cell and got a few pretty good lightning shots.

I enjoyed getting these shots but they still don't beat the shot that I got from our property in Snowflake last year. Lightning More Lightning

We're just now getting some steady 'drops' in my neighborhood in Phoenix.
A lawnchair just tumbled into the pool....
Melissa: I know what you mean. Payson is the same way, all of the ditches are clogged because the town doesn't clean them because "it never rains here".
Thank you everyone.
These are really cool photos.
I remember when I was living in Arizona that the rain fell and it fell hard. Our back yard looked like a swamp it was so cool.
Then the power when out and all you could see was the lightening luming into the house and that was all the light that you had for a couple of hours.
I remember also going outside when it was really windy monsoon season just started. And the wind is wipping around but it wasn't cold nor was it dry.
It actually felt good outside and I know that I didn't want to go back inside but I had to go back to work.
Thank you for sharing your images. :)
Yep, it rained all night long.
Daytona: Yep, we're getting all of that right now.
Cool shots. I had the urge to try to get some myself, but shook it off... they never come out for me... ;-(
Thanks.
I love to try to capture the lightening,,,,,,lots of force....
John: You should have at least tried. It's so cool to watch and I would have loved to see you pictures. I hope it will be a good monsoon season.
Charles: I hope it all blooms again, that would be great.
Thanks so much for posting this to
my group
I flew across Arizona once in a small plane and we watched them build quickly in the distance and turn into lightning storms. Quite a sight.
Thanks.
Thank you very much Tad. Actually this time I used the steering wheel as a tripod for the most part.
Excellent shots of lightening.
