OK. I love books. I love to read them .... I love to own them ... I love to have them available to reference at 3am when I am working on a project.
Books make up more than 50% of my earthly possessions. This requires space, a strong back when moving, a patient dust rag, and can represent a significant investment.
A while back there was a site called blackmask.com. It hailed from Australia, where copyright laws differed from the US, and had many books in all genres available for download (in multiple formats) or for purchase on CD/DVD. It ran into legal problems and shut down.
Well, it must have found a way ... it is back as Munseys.com.
Formats include: Amazon Kindle, Sony Reader, MobiPocket, Adobe Acrobat, MSReader, Palm, and more. Some of these formats have good, free audio-reader tools available for those long commutes (or learn-while-you-sleep afficionadoes).
Browse the list alphabetically, by category, or by tag. Over 20,000 titles are included.
If you want to build your legal e-book library this site, along with Project Gutenberg and the University of Virginia, is a great place to start! Just remember to have CDs, DVDs, thumbdrives, or other backup media on hand -- it can be tempting to download them all.
