Nowadays, many of the sufferers of tinnitus belong to the younger generation, hence, it is not surprising if Ipods & tinnitus often go together. With the recent developments in technology, people, especially those who belong to the younger generation can now listen to their favorite songs for hours everywhere. However, together with the invention and popularity of MP3 players is the rise of the number of ringing in the ears sufferers among the younger generation. A study showed that in a group of people below 40 years old, more than 70% of these people attributed the use of MP3 players as the probable cause of the ringing in their ears. Furthermore, around 90% of the tinnitus cases is noise-induced.
The correlation between Ipods and tinnitus would have been less if we know how to use our Ipods properly. It should be taken into consideration that it is not the Ipods that directly cause the condition, but the way we use them. We should know how to use the gadget properly. And when we say safe, it means using only up to 60% of your IPod's volume adjustment. Also, listening to music using your IPod should not exceed to more than an hour.
The safe use of MP3 players should be practiced as the tiny hairs in the inner ear get bent or broken when exposed to loud and prolonged sound vibrations. Take note that these hairs cannot be renewed or replaced. This can then result to ear ringing, or worse, permanent loss of hearing. And this may mean that you can no longer use your IPod and listen to music. You do not want this to happen, do you?
The idea of being able to carry a device that makes us listen to the songs we like anytime and anywhere may be plausible, but this should not overexcite us. We are not saying that you should stop using your MP3 players, but make sure to use the device in moderation You being able to hear the sound coming from other person's earphones means that he or she is not practicing a safe use of MP3 player. The same is true in going to concerts. Going very near the speakers or staying too long listening to the loud music being played may cause you to experience ear ringing or to lose your sense of hearing for that matter. And as you turn on your Ipod, please remember the correlation between Ipods and tinnitus discussed in this article.
