I wouldn't recommend the military as an option unless they wanted to do it. I'd say college would be a better option.

I would rather they go to college. BUT, they are free to make their own decisions. I would suggest college, but not force it upon them. If they wanted to go into the military, that would be there choice to make. ...not after I got my 2 cents in though to arm them with enough education and information so they realize and can weigh the options. lol

I would recommend it to some of my kids. They are all boys but are going in different directions. We have one that is not finished with high school yet but will be this year 2 years early. I think he should go straight to college. My next son has a few disabilities so they would not take him. Then my next child would do great in the military. It would teach him a lot.My next 3 are a little young yet to tell.

No I would not recommend it,it should be their own personal choice,too many kids are forced into the army not realizing the facts,they go there thinking it will pay for this and that,its more then that , so unless they are aware of the facts it shouldn't be recommended its not for everyone ,, too many of them go into it for the WRONG reasons

I have three kids all shortly out of high school, and yes I would recommend it; and have as an option. Of course I think most of us preferred they went to college and became doctors or what not, but that's not the case, or always possible. The military offers a great deal to those that are unsure of their goals, and more than just learning skills. It also makes a fine career.
Coming from an Air Force family, that's first in my mind, but they all are fine; and gender doesn't matter. My father, my sister, and I all served.
We shouldn't forget the Coast Guard too, a branch often overlooked; as well as the higher educational opportunities available while serving, or after.

I think the best possible choice is college--but not all kids are cut out for it. I think the miliary can be a good choice for some. My son has a disability, but he might yet be able to serve--he's only 14. I think it would be a mistake for him--he's got a great mind and a not so able body. My husband served in the Army and he recommends it. I'd lean more toward the Air Force. I would never discourage him, but I'd definitely rather he go to college and be an engineer.

I have a boy and a girl - actually young adults now. I raised them to always set their sights on college. Being in business, I know that if you want a good career, a college education is critical. Also, education in and of itself is important to a person's maturity and overall understanding and appreciation of the world in all its complexity.

If they were not cut out for college, I would encourage them to learn a good trade, to start their own business with a partner who could help them fill in the gaps in their abilities.

I would not ever encourage my children to enter the military. I raised them to be totally non-violent. Both feel strongly about this and would never be able to willingly hurt another human being. I know there are people in the world who do terrible things, but I figure if I raised two human beings who would never think about doing these things, I am contributing to the general goodness in the world.

I don't know why some seem to assume everybody is a combat soldier in the military either by the way, there are hundreds of different professions in the military.

I have a 17 yr old so I can honestly say no to this question. We are fighting a war that isn't ours and we won't win.

I wouldn't recommend it during a time of war, but I would have no choice but to support her/him if that was truly her/his choice. I know that there are many non-combat positions within the military, but even those are dangerous when located in areas of conflict.
