Iran has now test-fired long-range missiles capable of hitting Israel in a possible confrontation.
What is the best response to this action to advance the cause of peace in the region?
John McCain is advancing the idea of a missile shield to protect Europe and our allies from possible attack from Iran.
"McCain, who has called Obama's willingness to meet with U.S. foes such as Iran naive, said the Iranian tests proved the need for a missile-defense shield in Europe."
Obama appears to be more interested in negotiations and sanctions:
"President George W. Bush has not backed up confrontational rhetoric with economic sanctions. Obama cited reports indicating that U.S. exports to Iran have increased during Bush's years in office."
Which approach do you believe will be more effective? Should we enhance our defenses with anti-missile missiles? Should we be negotiating with Iran? Sanctions? Or a combination of all of these?
Which candidate do you believe would be more successful in dealing with this threat to peace?

You have relatives in Wisconsin? Thanks for your comment. Of course they are just posturing. But they are capable of the real deal.
Again you've inspired in me a very long comment. So instead of presenting it here I've posted an article instead, "The Folly of a Missle Defense Shield".
Great topic, thank you.
Missile shield... sure, why not if they want it there. Iran's leadership may decide to become martyrs someday? Israel might strike, and Iran take it out on everybody they can as payback. (remember Saddam's scuds in '91)
Negotiations. Don't believe for a second that there aren't back door talks with the US already; besides all the public ones with the EU etc. In fact, discussions about envoys/interest sections has been in the news just lately as well. What's going on now with all this is another form of psych-ops diplomacy anyway.... in public.
Best President for dealing with Iran? Shouldn't really matter.... Iran will test the new one for reactions first before anything is done. They are waiting...
My 2 cents for today. Take care.
And now the sheep we are we have to jump on the band wagon and run around like chicken little, debating defense shield or no shield. Well Im a little deeper than that and my post would be to long. In short Im not voting for either canidate becuz of the ridicolous issue. Dog and pony show. If we are going to decide on our vote the point blank question needs to be ask.......if/when iran launchs one missle in a attack mr furture prez what r u going to do and will u put in writing? Personally anniliate the sh-- out of em now cuz really Im damn tired of dealing with the moron countries of the world and hearing about it. Forget sanctions save me some tax money on trips and policy making.
And b4 any1 thinks im just some backwoods hick, im well aware of what goes on in the world (not just a few mideast countries either) beyond what the media "reports" for us sheep. Go there first hand its a better eye opener than sitting on the couch going "omg we need to do something anything".
But then, I know what our foreign policy has been for the last 60+ years, so I know I'm in the minority. We have this inability to keep our noses out of everyone else's business. So, I'm sure we'll do something, and I'm equally sure it will be something STUPID. But on the upside, it should make for some good television.
