WAITING AS I WIDEN MY THRILL There was chaos in the house, but of course the gaiety persisted in making known the greater pleasures of the moment. The din of the gathering was mingled and merry. So much gossip to be heard and other various voices to be jostled about. So many smiles bending into, onto and beside me. A few flickering their womanly wiles, and I sidestepping. It was a night of high times, meandering through the moments, the swift living had me dangling at my limits. Laughter was gathering in every corner, every table and every stool. There was a brightness on women's lips and a lively appreciation flowing from men. The party, contrary to night, still growing vivid and lush with every shadow. But beyond the banter and bandied about voices, I found the lure of her murmur, and the words of her whisper. Somehow Sarah's voice was clearly, bewitchingly, captured by my ears. I looked about to find her amid all the clamor, and spied her among a circle of friends. I was drawn to her. Soon I was sidling up to her from behind in my most quaint and stealth manner. I spoke in my deepest, most drawn out and breathless tone. "Sarah," I said. "You have deepened all delight in living." These sincere but mischievous words were uttered in deep secret whisper. All the while Sarah had her back to me. She was participating in conversation with a group of others. She flushed a bit as she heard the words. She half turned to me, neck swung back, while a smirk of a smile was forming on her lips. She nonchalantly stared at me, one brow slightly rose. She boldly but silently darted me her reply, "... and you better well know it!" Her long swanlike neck, in a slanted feminine pose, slowly but coyly swung the head back to the attentions of her gathered group. But before she did so, she left me the most charming eye wink. There was something in it she had never done before and left me subtly seduced. I strolled away, joyfully, knowing that tonight we would attend to our warmest affections, for by the wealth of our kisses would lay the hours. I scarcely took note of my ease of anticipation. There was no anxiety since I knew I had only to wait, and all the world would be set before me. There was no proof that provoking a wish to come more swiftly would make it so. So I waited and was fit for the flight upward in anticipation. A thrill I endured and relished in the exhilaration. In waiting, I was widening my thrill...

What ever it is, I'm completely undone!
This is a masterful close-up of the art of flirtation and sexual tension written with poetic sensuality and personal pizazz.
Fluid superlatives duck stuck meanings and just juice up the arteries here.
Very distracting, Richard.
Why can't my life be like that? LOL
Once again, Richard, you've arrested my attention.
I can't wait for more, more, more!
Very well done, Richard.
The title, "Widening my Thrill" tells me that this piece is about the value of sexual anticipation, especially in a society that's not quite as open as ours. I look forward to the next installment.
This reminds me of James Ciriaco's work here on Gather. His prose is equally lovely, but he doesn't get read much because all of his work is flagged.
Here's my favorite of his works:
Shoreline by James Ciriaco.
the pleasure of anticipation. This has an almost electric feeling. It really connects.
Excellent, Richard.
You write with a certain charm, dear Richard.
This is an interesting opening to a chapter of a novella or novel, I can´t tell which here, unless you intend for it to grow into a long short story. You set up a keen anticipation in the reader to see what will happen next with these two people. You create a warm, erotic atmosphere of infinite possibility. It had the glowing quality in some places in the description that reminds me of Fitzgerald´s sense of the world´s promise in the arms of a beautiful woman.
on coal-smoked oysters and grilled salt-and-peppered eggplant slices rolled over roasted garlic bulbs and fresh basil and sweet goat cheese, dripping in olive oil, or rosemary bread toast slathered in fresh parmesan and mayo over New York's finest pastrami with grilled vidalia onions and fire-roasted peppers quickly broiled until bubbling hot .....somehow your words remind me of such excessive temptations to seduce the hidden moans that reside in us all.
