I know what you are going to say, OH NO! Another Gather game. Well this is sort of a game. But its a game in which I wish you to think about your response. I am writing this for two reasons. First because of my article "Oregon Man Completes Flight Of Fancy - In Lawn Chair" http://www.gather.com/viewArticle.jsp?articleId=281474977391279 which is mainly about dreams. Second because some of the things I have read in people's profiles. I think my favorite is this one "My life-long ambition is to become a child prodigy when I grow up.". So I am now wondering what did you want to be when you grew up and why.
My first life ambition came to me when I was about five years old. I decided at that time my ambition was to know everything. Oh the hubris of youth. I was off to a good start. My mother said I asked more questions than all my siblings combined. But, as I got older I realized that this was not a realistic dream. As a matter of fact, the older I get, the more I realize, the less I know.
My second ambition was in high school. I was part of the anti-establishment , better known as hippies. I was also in the generation where Watergate happened. In my school the majority of people wanted to do one of two things, be a teacher (especially special ed) or be a lawyer. I was in the latter group. After Watergate I wanted to make a difference. More than that I grew up in poorer neighborhoods and I wanted to help those who felt disenfranchised from the "american dream". I did not do that either. I ended up being a american constitutional history major in college. Which actually was fueled by my two dreams/aspirations. Love of learning and the law.
So what did you want to be when you grew up and why? Did you end up becoming the thing you dreamed of being as a child? Let the rest of us know.

I've been working hard for years now to achieve my goal of becoming a child prodigy, in actual fact I've given the best years of my youth to this goal.
That or Doris Day....
But you know what...I got to a point where I decided I liked me as I am and it's okay even though I didn't get to be a racing car driver or Doris Day. :) Sometimes people get their dreams and still aren't happy. I didn't get mine, but I found happiness!!

a Renaissance Man.
this makes me believe that Somebody Was Listening. "GRANTED," they intoned, and clapped their hands...
...so, like, maybe i should've tried for "a RICH Renaissance Man".
though this may be, on some intrinsic level, oxymoronic.
