GROWERS NOTEBOOK--ELEPHANT EAR BULB PLANTING
First of all, as with all bulbs and rhizomes, it is always a good idea to soak them overnight in fresh, tepid water. I always include 2 drops of "Superthrive", which works as a vitamin tonic to "wake them up" .
1. Dig a hole so that the top of the tuber will sit 2-3" below the surface of the ground.
2. Place tuber in the hole, knobby side up.
3. Cover with soil and water thoroughly.
4. Plant in the spring after the ground warms to about 60 degrees or higher.
5. Water, Water, Water.
Do not plant in full sun, they prefer partial shade. The more water they receive, the bigger they will grow, and the faster they will multiply.
Superthrive used to be very hard to find, however, I have seen it lately in Walmart. If you cannot find it, please email me, and I can acquire it and ship it to you. One bottle will last a year, and this is used on all plants, and trees, and can be combined with your normal fertilizer at the quota of 1-2 drops per gallon of water. We are never without it.
