Dawes Arboretum In Summer

If you are traveling in Central Ohio you might enjoy visiting this 1700 acre park on Rt. 13 in Jacksontown, Ohio, about 30 miles east of Columbus.  I never seem to have time to see all that I want to see when I visit here. On this day I decided to go down to the lake and visit my favorite trees. But first I'll stop by the pond.

Everything looks so lush and green




There's so much color everywhere



But I think I'll take the shady route





I love the paper birch tree


The sun is so bright that the lake is like a mirror


I love this Red Wood Tree



And the Japanese Parasol Tree


My husband thinks the Parasol tree makes a nice shady place to hide from the wife but my camera found him 


I love this unusual Red Maple that is unpruned and allowed to sprawl. It also makes a great place to sit.



I love the Lace Bark Pines



Wouldn't a stand of these make a great place for a giraffe to hide?


I wouldn't mind hanging around on the shady side of the lake for awhile but it's time to go

These are beautiful pictures and a beautiful park! It also looks like many people haven't discovered it yet, which makes it terrific, like a private hidden treasure. We used to have a park like that and then it was included in a Fodor's guidebook. (I'm not sure that's how you spell it.) Anyway, the park is always crowded and people litter. I miss the old park!

This is such a wonderful photo essay Kay, each picture more beautiful than the next, you are very talented with the camera, the framing is perfect on the pictures , and I love the shot of your Hubby sitting under the tree, you should frame it for him and you.

This was just delightful, Kay! I enjoyed each photo (liked the one of your hubby "hiding" in that tree ;-D ). We have an arboretum here as well called the "Dallas Arboretum", but it's too dang hot here to go in the summer for me anymore. I'll have to visit in the later part of autumn and take some pics for a photo essay as you've done here! Congratulations on being featured on Gather!
