This old house was built in 1900 by an architect for his family. It is called a Victorian craftsman and is actually quite plain. The ceiling tiles on the 12 foot ceiling show brown clouds. After the hurricane, the house shifted. Every day a few of them fall. I will fix them soon or else take them down and reveal the cypress wood underneath. I kind of like it. I spend a great deal of time on the front porch.
On July 4th, Marly AKA webfoot lady on Gather and I went to Belle River to a crawfish boil. I haven't eaten mud bugs in years. There was also corn, potatoes and mushrooms as well as garlics and onions.

The crawfish boil was at the home of a Cajun man by the name of Lynn Blanchard who told me that his grandparents had the same great grandfather. That's how close-knit these Cajun folks are. He said when his great grandfather died a few years ago, he left 365 grandchildren. He was 103 years old. There were seven generations at that time. Now, there are only five. He sang several songs and I tried to post them. This computer is as slow as Bayou Pierre Part.

Thank you all for your patience. I will try to keep up with things but if you do not see me, I am truly busy. I am still getting cats fixed and finding good homes for them. I am very particular about where each of these cats go and check on them regularly. I am also painting the outside of the house and still fixing what needs fixing.
I shall write more later. Thanks for reading this. Salud.

Anyway, when we were kids we'd go crawdaddin's with a piece of chicken liver on a string and lift them right up out of the "crick," Mom would boil them and we'd have a feast. A couple of years ago the whole fam damily was at a seafood buffet that had mudbugs. I got to greatly gross out everyone by eating them and savoring every bite. My youngest thought they really were some kind of insect and was retching into her napkin. Fun moment! Kodak memories! Don't forget to take lots of photos, er... whatever the new upgrade's calling them - tintypes? Ha. Miss you, Miss Spunky. Take us some walking videos around Franklin, and if you see JLB, tell him Vicky in MO loves him.
God Bless and enjoy the heat with the great food.
we can't wait to hear more stories and pictures... Salud...
hugs and peace...

Cajun Goddess
Welcome back. Call me as I lost your numbers. I hope to see you very soon. I want to get together and doing something fun together.
Just got back from NE Texas. If you're going to go to Texas, might as well do it in July when you can surely appreciate it at its finest. The myrtles were full of hellacious mocking birds and the banana trees lofted chamelions in green and chomping the few flies left in the world. Catfish and watermelon, enchiladas and ice water.
But I pine for mud bug boudin and pralines (not the chewie kind.)
1/2 cup of 1/2 and 1/2
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup of brown sugar
dash of salt
stir on medium to 228 degrees
add 2 tablespoons of butter and leave alone to 236 degrees
remove from heat, add 1 teaspoon vanilla and 1 cup of pecan (halves and pieces)
stir like crazy man until goo begins to turn - becomes a bit grainy
spoon out onto wax paper, the first will be under done and the last will be a sugar rock. the others will be perfect
Did I get that right?
Welcome home!
But Houston's just not the same since the petrochemical industry moved to Venezuala. Blue skies there is 'left' ('cause it just ain't right.)
reminds me that i have to try some watermelon juice soon!
love you. m.
I've always had a yen to see Bayou country.
Perhaps it was the song "Blue Bayou" whick remains one of my favourites.
I have quite a ew Cajun style CD's as the music is very similar to how some people here play.
Perhaps ots the common French heritage.
That crawfish looked really good.
