Nascar Race Fans

I wan't around to watch the race yesterday so I set my trusty DVR to tape it.  I started watching it this morning and could not get over the horrible coverage provided by TNT.  I usually love the coverage on TNT, including the on air personalities, but not for yesterday's race.  There were so many commercials I wanted to scream.

I understand that TNT and other channels need commercials and I don't mind sitting through some, but yesterday was above and beyond ridiculous.  In a matter of ten minutes there were two movie plugs, two commercials in the crawl at over a minute a piece and one break away commercial.  This is on top of the fact that I pay a cable bill to have the channel in the first place!

So, I found myself going to TNT's website to complain and then going to Nascar's website to repeat my complaint.  In my complaint to Nascar I also pointed out that I would not be needing my trackpass subscription if I quit watching the races altogether.  I would advise other fans to do the same or we may find this happening for all the races.

Well, I guess they must have needed all those commercials to pay for the airing of the race.. but I hate them too.

I don't think there were any more commercials than usual, they just felt distracting since they were airing simultaneously with the race. Actually, it hadn't occurred to me until I was reading this that it makes a LOT of sense for them to change the format, adding the commercials that play DURING the race because those of us who DO DVR now cannot fast forward past them! I didn't care for the format personally, I felt it was very busy and distracting, but I didn't actually MIND the commercials being on at the same time as the race just because I really like getting to continue to watch, if not hear, the actual race without feeling like I'm missing things. You'll never get rid of commercials, though... that's how the Networks pay their bills.

I was thrown by the constant commercial being run while the race was on too. I guess someone has to pay for the air time. I told myself that at least you still got to watch the race, but somehow it wasn't the same.

I prefer Indy racing. There's more strategy and the racers tend to behave themselves better. You'll never get rid of commercials, that's how the Networks pay their bills. They're like orgasms... you're stuck with them.

The commercials that annoyed me the most were the ones that we in a box at the bottom of your screen. while the race was in the background. You heard the voices on the commercials of course. That just bugged me. If the race is on my screen I want to hear the race!

I don't watch the races, but some movies on television seem to have more commercials than movie, so I kind of know the feeling !

Too many commercials gives me a headache. That is when you just have to mute the TV.

I hear you. We pay to see the programs and then have to watch way too many commercials. I understand it helps them out but jeepers, so many?

well, in MHO, I think it is a good idea. How many times have they cut to a commercial only for us to find that there was a fantastic pass, a multi car accident, etc. when the race came back on the air. The multiscreen concept allows us to see every minute of the race. Remember, the race would not be there if not for the sponsors.
