High cost of everything.....what are you doing to save money?

Cutting back on unneccesary road trips.

Cutting back on driving, cutting coupons, and making sure that everything that is electric in my house is turned off....even alarm clocks, until I need them. Started making my own coffee and buying many more store brand items than I have in the past.

Pretty much the same things I have always done. Plan any trip so I don't do unnecessary driving, walk to things when I can,use coupons, don't buy prepared foods,
do my own yard and house work, sew, send for freebies.

Pretty much all the same things as you. I have a ridiculous obsession with magazines, and I've really had to cut back to the only ones I can get for free. What sites are you using, if you don't mind telling me?

Most of the things you mentioned, I quit years ago. When popcorn at the movie theatres rose to $5.00 a small bucket that was it for me. But i ahve found that those at the top don't really want us down at the lower side of monetary gain to be able to be conservative, and to save money. That's is what this is all about. It is no differnet than armed robbery. In fact, that is exactly what it is. They wanted to force all the poorer people to opoen up even all of their little dhildrens' piggy banks and empty them out, for their profits. George Bush has enough money now to live on for the next thousand or so years. He belongs under a jail. As do all the Pubs and Dems who are behind all this.

We have always cut coupons....we have been driving hubby's truck A LOT less....otherwise, just trying to cut back where we can...

We really have made few changes since I was pretty frugal already. I already used coupons, did research before buying bigger ticket items, etc.

Like Karen, we are driving our car more than the truck. I also don't take any quick runs to get things, I combine trips.

I am cutting the coupons, going to the farmers marker for fruits and vegetable and cooking a lot at home.

My husband and I have been staying in much more for lunches!

We eat a meatless meal once or twice a week.We drive less around town if possible. We bring our own lunches to work. I find myself watching what I put in my shopping cart when grocery shopping, or when I go to Target. I used to be a little more carefree with my spending. ( I am also saving for Vacation and to help pay for putting a new roof on my mothers house) SOOO that is taking a big chunk of my pay.

I don't drive as much as I used to. I eat more chicken and fresh foods. I also unplug appliances when they are not in use--like cell phone chargers, video games, even tv's when I can reach the plug easily. It has really helped.

I use coupons and they really save me a lot of money. K-mart helped me save a lot on items we really do need like shampoo. If I can get it free, then that is money that can be spent on something else.

cheaper shampoo, buying four rolls instead of two, cheaper toothpaste, making items last longer. not getting any more special items...

We cut back on everything-we got rid of our cell phones, and got a prepay, cut back on eating out, reduces the Cable to the bare neccesity, unplug anything not being used at the precise moment.

I haven't really changed my habits. I have long lived a frugal lifestyle, and I shall continue to do so.

Like Heather and a few others, we haven't really changed our habits lately. We've always been careful with our money. We're expanding our garden so we can grow more food, and we're helping a couple of our neighbors start their own gardens.

The best thing I did to save money was to take every cent I saved since Bushco was selected and put it all in cash earning the highest interest rate I could find. I would bring in ads to the bank and ask them to meet the higher interest rates of other banks... and they did it each time I asked. And I'm someone who has been actively investing in the market for over 12 years now. Once bushco was selected I knew our economy would tank at the end of his reign. If you had a brain it didn't take any special knowledge to know what was going to happen. Paulson knew this when he got his job 2 yrs ago, why did it take him so long to react?

I also: grow my own fruit & veggies in the summer, have a worm farm & compost bin, I've never used my dishwasher or clothes dryer, why waste the natural resources & money todry clothes when I live in a desert? I reuse Xmas wrapping paper & recycle old Xmas cards into gift tags. I use all sorts of coupons for eating out & buy all my cleaning products at the 99 cent store. And since we live near the beach in SoCali we never even have to use our heat and we don't even have a/c. When it rains I collect water in barrels from my downspout to water my garden with. I know my local librarians and recycle books to friends & neighbors after I read em. I bring all my mags to various doctors office I visit. I am such a rabid recycler that each week our blue recycle can is filled to the top and we only have to take out the black garbage can once or twice a month. I give the bottles & cans that are worth something to the homeless guys who need the income.

I am the greenest person the best saver I know... and have been my entire adult life. I owe no money to anyone, I've never owed money on my credit cards, I pay off my credit cards in full each month. I feel good when I can save money.

Not to boast or anythin..;') but I'm finally in the vanguard for a change!

We cut back on our grocery spending to where we only grocery shop one time a month. We started using our bread machine to make our own bread rather than purchase store bread. We use more powdered milk in cooking. Eat more rice. Cut back on shopping and driving.

I cut coupons ... cut back on everything really .. We don't go out to often my kids and I. I get movies from the library .. and watch some online too (free!) I only grocery shop once a month ... the less your in the store the less you will spend! I just try to cut out anything that I could live without .. and I am still working on cutting out more. I am so sick of being broke all the time!

we used powdered milk too ... I don't drink soda or allow my kids too. I drink mostly water ... they drink koolaid or juice. Milk is so expensive we use it for cereal and thats about it... sad really. I buy a lot of my groceries at Aldi's .. they are cheaper then regular supermarkets. We don't buy snacks ... hardly ever! If were going to get something 'sweet' we will get a cake and bake it or bake cookies. I don't buy the canned stuff like raviolli's and what not because it gets too expensive. I buy meat when it is on sale and buy the family packs to save a little ... I could go on and on but I won't bore you .. LOL

Oh and my cleaning supplies I buy at dollar tree .. because its cheaper!

I've stopped eating out. Haven't been to the movies in a while. I try to catch the sales at grocery stores.
