One of the biggest challenges that I have had as a work at home parent is having the time that I need to get a job done. I have three young children (5, 2, 4 months) and it seems no matter what I do, someone is always calling my name for something.
But if you are always helping the kids out, it seems that you just don't have all the time you need to get everything done. This is a bad situation for myself, as I do a lot of contract work with specific due dates, and they need to be done on time.
I suppose that in this instance, you really have two choices - hire a babysitter (or get daycare), or create a schedule of when you are going to work and stick to it. We chose the latter as the cost of daycare is a little to high for our budget.
So, I make sure to get my work done during the allotted hours that I have set aside for work, and be a dad the rest of the time. I don't know what I would do if I didn't create a schedule - I would guess that I would get nothing done.

I find that in the summer, you have to be a bit more flexible with your schedule - if it is a nice day out, why not go out and enjoy the weather? You can always work when it is dark.
