Scandalous!

Did you know that in 1926, when Lee Rider Jeans introduced the first jeans with zippers, many religious leaders were horrified, and denounced them as "scandalous?"

Then, in the 1950's, jeans were scandalous again when stars like James Dean and Marlon Brando made them symbols of youthful rebelliousness and they were banned in schools across the country, afraid that the mere touch of the sinful denim would lead to teenage delinquency.

Now, the average American owns 8 pairs of jeans and 50% of women think a man looks sexiest in jeans and a t-shirt.

So maybe they weren't entirely wrong about that "scandalous" bit..

What was scandalous then is accepted now. The fad I would like to see die is young men (primarily African-Americans) walking around with baggy pants, exposed underwear and playing what I call garbage for music loudly!

I remember hip-huggers, and elephant pants. I had some elephant pants I absolutely loved! I also remember embroidering my jeans in the late 60's-early 70's and patching them because they really did have holes in them, not just for fashion.

It was also scandalous when Brooke Shields modeled in her Calvin Kleins and did that commercial on tv - when she was 13.

I have at least 8 pairs of jeans. I also have a pair of denim capris. I love them and can't live without 'em.

Bras were scandalous, too. Now? Well now, there's not a lot that is considered scandalous any more. We have come a long way. (Or have we?)

I wore jeans when it was scandalous and stopped wearing them when they became popular. ... Just a coincicence. I don't dress for others except occasionally for my wife. I dress for comfort and protection from the sun and weather.

I remember when I couldn't wear them to school! Girls weren't even allowed to wear pants! I was in high school before they changed the rule in my little town, in the late 60's.
