$800 worth of gasoline, diesel fuel stolen in Somerset
Thieves made off with nearly $800 of diesel fuel and gasoline in recent crimes, Somerset Borough police said.
On June 18, someone pumped $70.00 worth of gas from the BP station along East Main Street and drove off without paying, police said. The vehicle is described as an older model Blue Ford Bronco.
Four days later, someone siphoned 150 gallons of diesel from a 2005 International tractor-trailer that was parked in the Mack Truck Repair Facility on Waterworks Road, police said. The fuel totaled $717.00.
==================================
I remember during the fuel crises in the 70's/80's having to go out and buy a locking gas cap for our car. One of our neighbors had all of their gas siphoned out of their car. We did not want to take a chance on it happening to us. About a year ago we went looking at new cars. I asked why they did not have locking gas caps. The salesperson reponded to me why would you need one. Well, it looks like we are back to needing locking gas caps once again. It's a sad state of affairs when you cannot park your vehicle and know that when you get back you will have enough gas to reach your next stop. I tease Hubby sometimes what sould we drink gasoline or milk? I guess with the price of both I'm going to have to padlock my refrigerator also.
