Any large darting and hovering moth of the family Sphingidae, having narrow front wings and stout body. Hawk Moths appear in night and are of different Colors. I have observed 2 types one is brown and other is florescent green color with brownish spreading on the wings.
I am lucky to photograph two types of this Hawk Moth Species but sadly, I am unsure what its scientific name and further details!
These moths are found mostly in rainy season around my home; and when it is flying it is somewhat like a bird flying around making dashing and hitting all around the walls in the night hours.
I have observed that Hawk moth is highly attracted towards light from CFL lamps and Fluorescent lamps.
It is also observed that once it starts to be active; it vibrates its wings for long before takeoff from the resting place making a buzzing sound with the wings.

Thanks for sharing.
I have some shots of a sort of similar looking moth that I found in my back yard a couple of months ago. I just never posted the pics. I have no idea what kind the one I found is.
