[dedicated to JH, who does not allow political ideology to imprison him]
My own note: this "EXPERIENCE" business has grown old. For someone like me, in my twenties I was told that I was underexperienced, and lately I am being told,
"Ms W., you are far TOO experienced. We fear you would be too bored, and this job would not be challenging enough for you." *(The old wink and the nod)*
We African Americans GET IT. We have always GOT IT. What makes you think that when you now apply the "NOT EXPERIENCED ENOUGH" tag to an absolutely brilliant man like Senator Barack Obama, after electing such successful Presidents (without "like" experience) as Ronald Reagan and Dwight D. Eisenhower that the phrase just rolls right over our heads? Just because we haven't said so to YOU, doesn't mean we didn't/don't know. Do YOU get it? With that said:
"It's time to turn the page."
"I'll give you CHANGE you can believe in."
(Quotes from Senator Barack Obama)
"There is a right kind of experience and there is a wrong kind of experience."
(a quote from President Bill Clinton when Bush HW questioned HIS experience.) Experience that.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now, my poem, entitled "EXPERIENCE this!":
"Every kingdom divided against itself
Is brought to desolation..." (Matthew 12.25)
The Framers knew -- not "Red and Blue"
Red/White/Blue must forge our nation.
-----------------
"Divide and Conquer" is the primary tool
For generals, logisticians, and enemies true
We're the U.S. of A. -- the Red, White, and Blue
Divided we fall; united we rule.
-----------------
'...every city or house divided
against itself shall not stand" (Matthew 12:25)
Democrat, Republican, Independent, Undecided
"United" is the Barack Obama plan.
------------------
The Framers came from varied occupations
Used wisdom to draft their plan
All should be equal in this new nation
To constitute the foundation of this new land.
----------------
Wisdom -- not EXPERIENCE -- was the principle thing
"Wisdom is the principal thing." (Proverb 4:7)
Their voices resounded -- "Let freedom ring!"
"With all thy getting, get understanding." (Proverb 4:7)
------------------------
Elders, Chief Priests and Scribes --
--the authorities -- questioned Jesus' authority, too. (Matthew 21:23)
It's your Presidential "presence" they really despise
Obama, feel honored they are challenging you.
(You're in good company, aren't you)
-----------------------
"Talking LOUD and saying NOTHING"
Are the words of the late James Brown
EXPERIENCED "Orators" speak in states and towns
Fearful of unity, they're intent on tearing down
------------------------
The Forefathers EXPERIENCED the tyranny
Wanted freedom from EXPERIENCED King George 3rd
The EXPERIENCE of taxation without representation
Insults, usurpations, injuries and scores more
Was enough EXPERIENCE to unite them to forge...
Their Independence!
------------------------------
They might have had little EXPERIENCE in rebellion
But what they had EXPERIENCED -- oppression --
They had EXPERIENCED enough.
-------------------
Some of the Constitutional Signators:
Benjamin Franklin, Samuel Adams,
George Washington, Jr. James Madison,
Patrick Henry, Alexander Hamilton ...
...
Differing "EXPERIENCES", UNITED as ONE.
To DEVELOP the
BEAUTY
SIMPLICITY, but
ELOQUENCE of their
IDEAL
P-R-E-S-I-D-E-N-T --
PRESIDENT!
PRESIDENT of their IDEAL NEW COUNTRY
PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!
They wrote:
"No Person except a natural born Citizen or a Citizen of the United States at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within The United States...."
----
Taken from Article II, Section 1 of the United States Constitution.
-----
ANYONE who feels more "EXPERIENCED", more qualified
Than the aforementioned Framers -- these Greats
Should rewrite Article II -- YES!, defy
Correct Ben Franklin and George Washington's "mistakes"
----------
"EXPERIENCED" ones know
$1 George and $100 Ben are very able
Especially when green, and
Passed under the table
------
Cha-ching! Cha-ching!
---------
Lawyers, statesmen, politicians, or some training in law
Were the EXPERIENCES of the signators, all
---
Notice this:
When describing their IDEAL President -- these
EXPERIENCED men
None of their occupations or EXPERIENCES were put in!!!!!
ASK yourself why? Equality? Inalienable rights, perhaps?
What WERE they thinking -- those EXPERIENCED chaps?
Didn't those "EXPERIENCES"
Their very own "EXPERIENCED" occupations count?
Better yet -- ask yourself, WHY?
Why did they CHOOSE to leave their own
EXPERIENCES OUT?
---
The Framers knew, "Wisdom is the principal thing." (Proverb 4:7)
If age thirty-five (or probably not), they've voted Jesus in
Today's "EXPERIENCED" ones would be screaming,
"No EXPERIENCE! Let's CRUCIFY him AGAIN!"
-----
By the way, speaking of "crucify",
The Framers EXPERIENCED, "ready to die".
Which "EXPERIENCED" ones opened the door
To vote America into a STUPID war?
----
How many "EXPERIENCED" ones' daughters and sons
Are in Iraq wielding guns?
"EXPERIENCED" ones vote for senseless wars
Knowing they won't die off Iraqi shores
----
Vote more reticent, they would, due to trepidation
If -- like the Framers -- they'd also have to do battle for their nation
HOW MANY "EXPERIENCED" ONES CAN ADD FRONT LINE WARTIME COMBAT
EXPERIENCE TO THEIR RESUME? (John McCain has never been included in this indictment of
"EXPERIENCED" ones.)
-
Jesus answered his challengers, "You do err,
not knowing the scriptures..." he said. (Matthew 22:29)
If Obama's challengers want to be fair
Get a bit o' scripture, and
Article II, Section 1 should be re-read
----
Jesus continued to instruct the "leaders"
Said they didn't know, "the power of God" (Matthew 22:29)
America's leaders have forgotten "We the People..."
God and "We the People", the Framers never forgot.
----
You attempt to place Obama into a political diatribe
Pointing at him -- it's really your "EXPERIENCED" selves you describe
----
This "EXPERIENCED" conspiracy
Is purely eye-opening stupidity
Oscars to "EXPERIENCED" ones for staged "melodrama"
But your onstage cues won't out stage -- won't STOP Obama!
----
The moral is if EXPERIENCE
Is all that is takes
EXPERIENCE does not mean wise
Or does not an expert make
----
Qualifications and qualified
The Framers chose to decide
We the People should SCRUTINIZE our so-called
"EXPERIENCED LEADERS" -- it's an outrage
The status of this country -- we should all be appalled
"It's time to turn the page!"*^*
Oh, so-called "EXPERIENCED" ONES, "EXPERIENCED" ORATORS, EXPERIENCE THIS!
(EX-it PEERS into THIS!)

P.S. -- I want to know what happened to mentioning the "yellow fringe"... They're always saying "The Red, White and Blue" but seldom do you see mentioned the "Yellow Fringe"... Poor Yellow Fringe! Always left out!
and
Jean,
The problem with America is FOREVER in an effort to leave somebody out or be exclusive, with the Red States and the Blue States -- see that?
The last time I checked we were SUPPOSED to be "The United States".
I wonder how many people stop to think about that, and then ask the question:
"Just where did this Red and Blue come from in the first place? Maybe another logistical 'divide us, keep us diverted, and conquer' tactic?"
We too easily allow ourselves to take our eyes off the goal.
Is Obama experienced? Well probably more so than our current resident in the White House.
P.S. Jean, it's gold. And when it is on it's technically not the "flag" but the "colors." Flags typically fly on stationary flag poles, while the colors are used in parades and always with an escort.
To me, a believer in term limits, the worst thing a politician can claim is experience since it means they understand how to use the system.
and Supreme Allied Commander certainly gave him FAR more foreign affairs expereicne than ANYONE has had before or since.
All that said, just because he wasn't flashy, doesn't mean he wasn't a great president. Many of the others would have left glowing smoking craters in the ruins of cities as legacies, not Ike.
and frankly no matter their ethnicity I'd prefer a President that grew up in AMERICA...
The wrong course is a war without end, more and more Americans not being able to afford health care, kids finishing school with debt up to their ears etc. Experience is what put us in this boat, we need some big time change.
I am sending you an invitation to the Poet's Weekly Muse Group.
Amongst your many talents, this is the first I have known one of them was writing poetry !!! Great poem.
Experience is overrated. We need inexperience. Look what all those experienced ones have done !! We are in dire need now of one who can inspire and unite.
and SOUND JUDGMENT,
such as is needed in a CEO,
an ADMINISTRATIVE,
or an EXECUTIVE. WOW!
Doesn't that sound Constitutional -- just like one of the three branches of the government, like the branch under which the President operates. Way to go, Christopher!

Kay, this is true, but may I play with the statement a bit and be a little tongue and cheek by saying:
"Depends on what your definition of 'experience' is",
depends on what your definition of 'best president and worst president' is,
and depends on what your definition of 'is' is".
All in all, though Kay, I do see your point. Thank you! Thought provoking commment.

Whoa Ron, that's a profound statement, and leaning to my own EXPERIENCE, I can the truth in that! The more experience you gain the more you better understand how to exploit any given system. THAT seems to be what is wrong with Washington, I do so agree, Ron. Thanks.
____________________________________________
And that is true too, Chive. You said:
"Experience is what you get from doing something over and over and failing at it. Some people just do things right the first time, and do it huge."
There is a great deal of WISDOM on this thread. Personally, I would take wisdom and powerful insight any day over experience. But, as you said, there IS something to be said about doing something and learning from the mistakes. It appears though, Chive, that the Washington Insiders HAVE NOT LEARNED FROM THEIR MISTAKES. What then has so-called "experience" gained them? Thanks!
___________________________________________________
Absolutely! YES! He was very EXPERIENCED in the ways of WAR. However, that does not necessarily a good ADMINISTRATOR make, nor does it make you SAAVY as a WASHINGTON INSIDER, which is what Senator Obama has been indicted for NOT being.
Want WAR! YES. Eisenhower would have been your man. EISENHOWER.
Your most recent ICON, I see (JOHN WAYNE) who plays so many of those roles, and Audie Murphy -- SURE! But I would rather have an Abraham Lincoln, thank you very much; he was someone who sought to mend the divide, and end the fighting, to bridge the gaps, not someone who was EXPERIENCED at war! Thanks, Doc!

Sandy,
I also prefer Obama's experience with honesty and vision. At this point, there are many in this country who look to McCain, but Doc reflects it quite accurately -- and a poet/musician by the name of Gil Scott-Heron cited it quite well when he said it:
". . . but they would rather have John Wayne, but John Wayne isn't available anymore." It's sad really, and you cannot help but to feel some compassion for them. The world is changing, and they are not changing with it.
Thanks Sandy!

Brian, the BRAIN,
There are some things that simply require repeating. What you said is one of them:
" . . . experience is what put America on the current wrong course. What we need to do is something different.
The wrong course is a war without end, more and more Americans not being able to afford health care, kids finishing school with debt up to their ears etc. Experience is what put us in this boat, we need some big time change."
Thanks, Brian!

Judi! Judi! Wait! Don't go! And don't get off the soapbox, because your conversation was HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT! Live and in living colour! Is this the kind of press you normally put out? I've not seen this before from you! This too begs to be repeated:
"we are truly missing the boat to not embrace one another and combined our efforts for the good of all, not just the few.
We fuel the agendas of so very few and then we complain. What's wrong with that picture? We are all one, did we forget this too?
We are all in this boat together and we had better find a way to plug the holes before it sinks."
Judi, the only reason I separated it is because of a technique I learned a long time ago in a speed reading class, that's what. It makes it easier for eyes to scan it. Still your same exact words, but I didn't want anyone to miss one single thing.
Excellent Judi! Come on back any time and PREACH it again!

Barbara,
I hear that a great deal. Hmmm. This is what I consider my "commercial" poetry. I'm surprised that people don't know that I write poetry. I just don't put very much of it on Gather. I also write short stories, and other prose; I believe people would be quite shocked who they know just how much that I do write. The fact that I don't put it on Gather does not mean I don't do it.
Barbara oftentimes what inexperience does bring is a CLEAN SLATE -- something FRESH, NEW, INNOVATED, UNMARRED, UNDIRTIED. Perspective is everything. One of the things that Ma Bell taught us is that when your mind is already fixed with preconceived notions [from EXPERIENCE], it is harder to create new and innovative things, and that you must RE-LEARN to divest or empty yourself of old learning in order to acclimate to newer and better things.
"Experience" is not always all it is advertised to be.
Thanks Barbara. Have fun on vacation!
As far as I am concerned, policy and ideological beliefs are more important than experience in politics. Presidents have cabinets appointees and aids with all the real experience in the world.
The only thing that comes close to experience as president is being a governor.
How much experience did Washington or Jefferson have but they helped build this country to what it is today.
Give me a passion to help others over experienced status quo anyday.
You are quite welcome, Ace of The Short Term Memory Loss Experience. Uh, what was my mission for today, by the way????
"Those against Obama are not so because he is partly black. It is because he belongs to a different party. The democratic party not the republican party. Simple as that. Let us forget about race and concentrate on being good citizens of our great country. Aren't we all tired of black versus white?"
He is trying to appeal to your nobler motives. How many takers? How many people, while in their private groups speak otherwise. Of course, I would not be privy to these conversations, but you know what you are saying.
Personally, I like to keep it real . . .
Hey Jeff,
Remember the guy from Wisconsin that you called a drunk? He said he HATED Blacks, and he went on to state why he HATED Blacks. You told everybody not to pay attention to him, because he was from a part of Wisconsin where there was nothing but drunks. I wanted to talk to the guy, for I found his complete, stark honesty NEW, and REFRESHING. When I tried to go back, I couldn't find my comment in my own comments, and I couldn't find the article. Gather had taken it down!
For once I had found someone who had come out and openly expressed himself, and Gather removed his content. If only everyone would be so honest. What I would like to know is WHO reported him. I really wanted to get inside this man's head. He didn't sound drunk at all to me, and I would rather have an upfront, out-in-the-open conversation with an honest racist, than with a closet one, who hides behind political excuses.
No Lionel: colour plays into this.
Jeff, it looks like I agree with you and Ron. I know -- from personal experience -- what experience may buy, and in the wrong hands . . .
EXPERIENCE IS A DANGEROUS THING.
Most people cannot handle it, because of grrrrrreeed. Doesn't Washington prove it, as well as pork barrel spending?
I do need to double check, but I think they had some training in law, though.
I'll have to double check on it.
Give me a passion to help others over experienced status quo anyday.
Again, I agree. That, along with sound judgment, and you've got a leader.
I do remember that jack pint savage from Adams County Wisconsin. I couldn't believe my eyes when I read that article. I was a bit shocked too the the next day when his article was deleted. I agree with you that what he was saying wasn't so much about hate as it was about honesty. For example. He wasn't claiming why blacks should be hated by everybody. He was saying why HE hated them. It is too bad you didn't get a chance to further communicate with him because in a way it was almost like a cry for help. It wasn't something he boasted about or a position hi was proud of.
I wish I could find the man. Furthermore,
FOR SHAME, FOR SHAME ON GATHER FOR DENYING THE MAN HIS RIGHT TO EXERCISE HIS FREE SPEECH!
Jeff, I have seen -- and notified Gather about far worse, and to my knowledge, Gather did nothing. An excellent example is the person who used the N word against me, and I sent Tom Gerace the email about it.
I agree with you that the guy was harmless and expressing a cry for help. Why delete him? See there? That is what I mean when I say the poor and disenfranchised are censored, whereas the haughty and hateful are allowed to spout off their venomous lies and treachery. That is not justice, and if you come across the guy again Jeff, please let me know. I still would like to speak with him.
I enjoyed first time reading about experience and in-experienced
debate you put up best of your talent as write to get the great says !!
on Gather potentially can prove the freedom of speach judiciously worth
as write or right be denied !!!
