I got my first Angel Food Ministries order!

I have to admit I was a little nervous as I drove with my box to the church to pick up my order. I really didn't know what to expect. 

It was painless.  I checked in and then pushed my box around a big u-shaped table where volunteers put food in for me.  Then, a volunteer carried my box to the car.  I couldn't believe how much food we got for the money--and I was so happy no-one tried to save my soul :)  I am happy with how my soul is already, thank you very much!

Here's the July menu.  For $30 you get:
40 oz. Marie Callender's Crock Pot dinner (meat included)
1.5 lb boneless pork filet
5 lb. breaded chicken nuggets
1.5 beef ribs
28 oz. meatloaf & gravy
1 lb. beef fajitas
1 lb. fully cooked meatballs
1 lb. all meat hotdogs
1 lb. broccoli
1 lb. peas & carrots
28 oz. pasta sauce
1 lb. pasta
32 oz. Borden's 2% reduced fat shelf stable milk
32 oz. Hawaiian Punch
12 ct. corn tortillas
7 oz. Blueberry muffin mix
1 doz. eggs
dessert item

I figure I'll keep the items we wouldn't normally buy (like the chicken nuggets) for a gathering or when we're babysitting for the nieces/nephews.  We don't normally buy frozen vegetables, but we'll try the ones we got this month.  If we don't like them, I can either use them in soup or feed to the baby.  He seems to love everything.

I have been thinking about using the angel foods, but we don't eat much of the processed meat, so I have the feeling we would be paying for a lot of foods we would not be eating. I'm still thinking though.

I wish I had someone to help me get the food because it sure is a bargain, especially the way the economy is today. I don't mind making my dollars stretch further. I'd really be interested in some of the meats packs they have for $20, too. My problem is trying to carry all you get...way too heavy and bulky for me, especially trying to carry a huge box of food up to my third floor apartment...with only one leg and being on crutches. I wonder if I could get them to deliver and bring it up to me? I doubt it, so I have to pass on a great bargain.

If you are low income, and really need food. You can usually go to the local Food Bank and get it for free, or they will tell you of a Church or ministry, local distribution center where you can get them for free. Not as much meat but a big assortment of canned foods, corn, peas, string beans, Macaroni and cheese, plus sometimes fresh veggies from local farmers market.

I"m so glad you were able to go and get stuff from them! I've been wanting to do this for a long time, but I have no way to get there.. its' such a great deal, and I hear the food is really great too! YAY for you!! I love frozen veggies ..I always buy them over canned, but some people don't like them.. but, like you said they'd be good for the baby. :O)

Our church does this and I used to volunteer in the line! It was fun and nope its just a food ministry , not MINISTERING.. preaching .. I dont like that either but I am really glad they offer this as it has helped us alot. I believe you can also use your foodstamps to pay for it.. so it makes the foodstamps stretch as well!

Whats nice about it is that its not Institutional food... alot of it is processed foods but it sure helped us out alot!

We went to the grocery store locally and used the Angel Food menu for our state (Kansas) to find store prices.
The price we would have paid in the grocery store was over $60. And we got it for $30 from Angel Food. It's a great program. We've been using it for about 2 years now.

I've heard a lot of nice things about this service. I'm glad they're out there to help people who really need it.
Frozen vegetables taste so much better than canned ones! I hope you & your family will like them.

I'm alone in this city and don't have anyone here who can help me out. It's even tough finding a rid to get to doctor appointments...even from agencies who say they'll help and then back out. I even had to 'hire' one of my neighbors to take my garbage out for me. It would kind of defeat the purpose of saving money to have to pay someone to do this for me.

I think for people who can't afford food, they stop being so picky and eat what they can get...sure beats starving to death.

I bought my package and an extra meat package. I will be picking it up on the 19th. of July. It will be my first time of using this service. I gave a copy of the flyer to my boss and she's thinking of doing it, too.

I feel badly for people like Rob though. I wish there was a way to help other people get the food to their place for them.

It was so interesting reading a real report about how this works. I thought about doing it before, but I got hung up on the ordering part. When I called the number of the church, the person responsible wasn't in, so I never tried back. It's such an awesome deal.

Sounds like you got a great bargain. A friend of ours told us about Angel Food Ministries about a year ago. I'm sad to say the closest site to us is about 150 miles away, so definately not worth the drive (especially with the $4.79 a gallon gas). I sure do wish they had one closer, I'd surely take advantage of it.

I tried Angel Food Ministries here once. The church I went to had it all set up so you just drive up, give someone the last name and they open your back door and put it in the back seat. I didn't even have to get out of the car. It was amazing.

So many people think that the Angel Food ministries are only for welfare recipients, or the elderly....not true. Anyone can purchase a box. It is a wonderful ministry and no one will try to sell anything else. Our church hit the number one spot in the COUNTRY for box sales. The food is wonderful and it goes a long way. So come on down and get your food box and God Bless you all.

I just wish they'd drop the Saturday requirement. Low income people who work on Saturdays can't participate.
I have thought about doing it. Rob call the number in your area I know around here its at churches and they have someone to help bring it for disabeled individuals

Janet, it is once a month! You have to order by a certain date (depending on which state you live in) and pick up on a certain date.

I have heard lots of good things about the food. If I lived somewhere where they offered it, I would probably try it on months where we would eat most things offered.
