Are You Afraid People Will Vote For McCain Because He Is White?

June 29, 2008 12:31 PM EDT

Funny how politics and people work.

I have seen articles proclaiming Obama to be Hitler, the antichrist and scary.  Also for anyone who hasn't heard Obama is a Muslim that is going to infilltrate our government from the highest level and give control to the radical Islamic nation.

Now as far as Obama being the reincarnation of Hitler.  Hitler hated Jews, blacks, and pretty much everyone can you see his soul actually agreeing to be placed in a black man?

And yes Obama is the antichrist,  the bible says so.  Never mind that the nation of Islam didn't come around til the 6th or 7th century AD long after the bible had been written.

As for Obama being scary.  Is that scary as in educated man who wants to help the people and not worry about what is best for the corporations or scary as in "That black man is going to steal my purse?"

And last but certainly not least, Obama is a Muslim.  Yes he did go to Muslim school but he also went to Catholic school.  Both are scary.

Late last night I had an ephiphany.  Inspired by an article by Sandy Knauer and painkillers (not necessarily in that order).

I wrote a nonsense article about John McCain wanting to raise the drinking age to 12.  I admit I was looking for a response and I wasn't disappointed.

According to some of the people who commented on my article I am a drunk who slanders and is guilty of defamating McCain's good character.

As for the title to this.  I saw in a thread that someone had commented they were just deathly afraid that people will vote for Obama because he is black.

So how many people will vote for McCain because he is white.  Now that is really a scary thought.

As a totally unrelated afterthought, what the hell happened to Lyndon?  I went to his page and his account has been deleted.

Yes, but background is important too. I look at associates and how much experience the candidate has. Right now, we need someone with lots of experience in international relations

With the racists I know, who are proud Republicans, they are voting McCain because he's a Republican, first.

If the Republican was black and the Democrat was white, then they'd be full of angst.

we're up s-creek without a paddle then, one had little experience and the other has experience killing people. But then, that's pretty much what the Secretary of State is about.

Mary Ann there really is no experience that can prepare someone to be president...a governor would probably be the closest.

Their background such as McCain the moral leaving his wife for his hot blonde mistress and marrying her.

Wilma thanks.

How much experience did George Washington or Abe Lincoln have before becoming president?

Lyndon's use of language probably saw to the deletion of his account.

Lori if you look hard enough nasty things are said about all candidates. I am not sure if you saw but in Florida there were state vehicles tagged up with spray paint that says "Obama smokes crack". It is said to be the work of Clinton supporters.

My point is that the background chatter amongst the nutjobs are irrelevant unless you want them to be. Many blacks want a black candidates some whites don't. So what? May the best man win.

Jeff I agree there are nasty things said about both candidates my point is that when I published a nonsense article about McCain I got a response that I was slandering him.

Politics is dirty.

My question to you and the Florida incident...how did they come to the conclusion that it was Hillary supporters that did that?

I don't think race is a big factor in this election; name calling is.

I am called a racist because I am for McCain.

I didn't vote for John Kerry either. But 2004 was nice. We looked at the issues more and we did less name calling.

Wilma, McCain was a soldier and if he killed people he did it in the line of duty. Would you accuse George Bush (41) or John Kennedy of killing people? What about Eisenhower who led the D-Day invasion?

Many of our presidents had wartime experience.

The Democrat Primaries breakdown of black and white voters:

Maryland: 84% blacks vote Obama, 15% Clinton....
Virginia: 90% blacks vote Obama, 10% Clinton....

etc... and you think it's 'dumbsh*t'.... well, I would agree that voting based on color is pretty dumb, but that's is exactly what happens in the black community. Are you going to make a stink about that? You should, but you won't.

Race will enter in-- on both sides, and already has. But I think there are a lot of voters who would not vote for any black man OTHER than Obama -- because of what he stands for. No matter who wins in November I hope that people will be able to carry some of that momentum and apply it to their own lives.

" """ I wonder who blind people will vote for?"""

I would say to not reduce this to the ridiculous, but its too late for that. It's one of the reasons that I don't fuss when I hear people say that they won't participate in the political process, and give the reason that it's screwed. How can I argue with it, when people do NOT vote issues, but vote based on . . . say, colour, religion, or status -- like, it's you and me against THEM.

Since I'm a Christian, aren't I supposed to be voting with the Republicans? It's hogwash. No one is going to put me into a box, although people never stop trying to do it.

The source was CNN.... the poll has a margin of error. As for YOU starting a poll on Gather, that would be biased. Anyways, you obviously have trouble with facts/logic, so no point trying to convince you. If the Bible rings true, and pans out, these so-called "Christians" are going to bust the bottom out of Hell with such hypocrisy; where is the LOVE? That's my question. All I've seen from these is a lot of hate spewed everywhere against nearly every group (except themselves) on the face of the earth.

There are a lot of rumors when it comes to Obama. From what I've read, they aren't true. My husband also thinks that he is a Muslim and yet he has been a member of the same church in IL for many years. His dad is Muslim and that is why he has a Muslim name, doesn't mean he is one. Maybe he was brought up as one? I have no idea.

I don't care if he is black. I don't care that McCain is white. I think that McCain would just bring more of the same crap that Bush did. Life would not change for any of us if he becomes President. If Obama becomes President, then there will be some changes for the good - we will get out of Iraq, we will hopefully have a better economy, and he will try and create a system where our insurance is given to everyone.

I'd rather take the chance.

McCain will only be voted for because he isn't black and he doesn't have a muslim middle name.

Wow Wilma - What a degrading comment to anyone who has served this country in the military. Police officers are all trained to kill people too do you have such a low opinion of them too?

I don't care what color, sex, etc a candidate is. I just want the candidate who I feel best represents my stance on the issues and who I feel can do the job right. In this election I don't feel either candidate is the person for the job so I have to vote for the one that I believe will do the better job on the most important issues to me.

It always glows light a major light to read the type of thinkology people like Don use. It shows how far away from intelligent reason hius thinking lie. Don, did it ever occur to you that blacks voting for Obama just may feel he is the best candidate? Can you count the long history that we had with no consideration for race in our voting? Did you vote for white candidates because you had no other choice or because the one you chose was the best? If that is true then why would your hypothesis not allow blacks to do the same? By your thinking all blacks voted for Obama because he is black without the least consideration that a great number of blacks feel his qualifications and experience trumps anyone elses around. And don't bring me that limited expereince crap. I have heard enough of it. I suppose you don't consider the quality of experience just how much. I do. It matters not to me if a carpenter has 50 years of experience if he started off 50 years ago performing a part of his job wrong and continues his experience has little merit. On the other hand if a fairly new carpenter uses techniques which make the product work and last and doesn't leave a mess I would jump at choosing him. Somehow I don't see that thought pattern in minds which work at the same level as yours. You wish to convince me that due to that long term experience which so and so has is good enough for you even though they led us into one of the biggest messes this country has ever experienced. Okay!

Yes Lori they are and they are also trained to eliminate any threat to themselves or those they are protecting. In some case that means killing someone.

Spencer you make very good points but the sad fact is there will be blacks that will vote for Obama because he is black and there will be whites that will not vote for him because he is black. I am sure that can also be said for MCcain to. Lets just hope that the rest of the voters who take the time to educate themselves on the candidates will cancel out those votes.

EXPERIENCE

For decades it has been the word -- or lack of it -- to exclude Blacks from participating in "the American Dream".

The word that some Whites have grown to hate, "Affirmative Action" didn't just . . .

Ta da!

Pop up one day,

just because.

It came about, because it was recognized that Blacks were being systematically and Institutionally EXCLUDED, due to racism, and somehow, SOMEBODY had to level the playing field. Private enterprise -- one of the proponents of this racism was not about to do it, so the Federal Government HAD to step in.

Now Whites cry, "reverse discrimination." There is nothing "reverse" about it.

EXPERIENCE.

Check with some objective Constitutional experts. Ask THEM about the Framers, and

EXPERIENCE.

The Framers DID NOT want EXPERIENCE in that Constitution.
So, why do people CHOOSE to ignore this? Convenient to ignore?

It is scary that the world is not past this already - we are all human beings regardless of the color of our skin. A person should choose who they vote for based on their qualifications, platform, and because we believe they would be best for the job. Unfortunately people vote for many insane reasons - "I like the color of his tie" is a quote I actual heard while standing in line at the polls!

Darned if you do. Darned if you don't -- the BLACK EXPERIENCE.

On my job, I never wanted management -- NEVER!

When they tried to promote me, I stepped back from it -- can't force me into something that I do NOT want. Hell, I wanted to be a free spirit and a Union gal -- not a bought-and-paid-for flunkie.

But once, to prove racism, I did apply for a job. I was degreed, met -- in fact over exceeded the qualifications, had YEARS of [AHEM] E-X-P-E-R-I-E-N-C-E. I was a bad mother-shut-yo-mouth, and I knew it. I just wanted to see WHAT they would do. Here's what they told me:

Too White candidates with no degree, NO EXPERIENCE, and would need to be TAUGHT the job I already knew, less than 2 years in the company (I had about 18 at the time) were better qualified than I was. When I asked HOW were they better qualified, I never got a response.

Don't think my example is an isolated incident. I cite it because it's the one I know best.

Take your EXPERIENCE and go stick it somewhere. We DO know about your "EXPERIENCE". I proved my point. Each time you mention EXPERIENCE, we see the wink and the nod, and KNOW. That term had been around for years to exclude Blacks, and it is not new.

I'm still trying to figure out what Ike's EXPERIENCE was. Ronald Reagan's experience was prime! He totally ruined the mental heath care facilities here in California. Oh, but what an EXPERIENCE that was for us Californians. Didn't we see the difference on our streets! Is it a wonder so many say we're crazy out here? Is it a wonder so many of them are homeless out here?

Thank you very much Ronnie.

Maybe a good exercise, and since my nieces and nephews are out of school -- and some of yours are too (can't have MINE doing ALL the work, you understand) is doing research on the

EXPERIENCE

of the last 10 Presidents of the Country,

and see, just see

how they measure up.

I'll put big money on Obama being in the TOP 5

as one of them with the most impressive resume.

I'm backing Obama as I've stated befroe 'experienced' help put this country in the state that it's in. These "experienced" people have a group think that will give us more of the same. It's their mindset or plain inability to think past the nose on their face that if allowed will lead to more Americans unable to afford health care, kids finishing college with a life time of debt that eats up future investment capital, more good paying jobs being shipped overseas etc.

Enough is enough, insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

We need to kick these "experience" people to the curb big time.

By the way, I knew I would not get that job, because the NEW company had taken over, based in another State. Had it been the old company, (the California-based one), I could have never pulled that antic and gotten away with it -- they would have hired me. I did it because some of my African American work mates were being turned down, and were upset. They had less EXPERIENCE.

I really miss the old company; oh, how I miss the old company.

Nope...and I won't vote for Obama simply because he is black...or better looking or a smooth talker....

However, I would have voted for Hillary and a little part of me would have been because she was a woman....what an awesome thing to witness in my lifetime.....If we are being completely honest

Maybe Hillary is ready to make a CHANGE! She has come over to the RIGHT side now, and broken ties with the old fogies, and hopefully with the Washington insiders.

Karen,

Tsk, tsk. I was starting to get heart palpitations from my own friends here in the Bay Area, pressuring me to vote for Hillary, because she was a female. I would no more vote for her for being a female than I would vote for Obama for being Black.

I was reading the Harvard Business Review on Crisis Management and it said to the effect that expecting the exact same people to get yo out of a crisis that put you in it, is like delivering lettuce by rabbits- it's not going to happen.

Geez. The point of this article is . . . what?

I agree Lori that many people use Lyndon's language but I think he pissed off the wrong people. Just a rumor I heard.

Lyndon left because he wanted to leave. He pissed off a lot of people, including me. So do you, Don. So do I. It happens every day on Gather. Lyndon stayed awhile after that, and then announced that he had plans for the summer and was leaving. Unless he told you he was forced out, why would you spread "just a rumor".
