The Zimbabwe runoff election has been denounced as a "sham", due to the fact that opposition candidate Morgan Tsvangirai withdrew a few days back in the face of massive and violent intimidation efforts from pro-government goons. So: two names on the ballot, but you are in effect only allowed to vote for one guy. Then after the election, more pro government goons trotted through the villages of hungry people, looking for any adults without the tell tale ink stains on their index fingers. Gotta beat the crap out of those guys, they must be disloyal to our mighty ruler, 84 year old crazy man Robert Mugabe. Another thing that makes it a silly is the fact that it took weeks for the electoral people in Zimbabwe to count the vote in the original election that Tsvangirai probably won. But the runoff? Oh, not a problem, we can count that in one day.
Actually, it's more like a bad joke than a sham. It's like, everyone knows the election is not serious, how can you call it a sham? A sham is when you are actually think you might be fooling someone. This is way beyond that because nobody is fooled and the Mugabe goons even know that nobody is being fooled. It's like, yeah we know we are lying and you know we are lying too, but it would be bad form to actually ADMIT that we are lying. Like, that would actually make us look bad!
It reminds me of Karl Rove, actually.

Too bad the world doesn't value Zimbabwe's natural resources enough to put an end to this ... it's people being first among those resources.
