YUM! We picked up some berries and a few figs the other night at the Farmer's Market. I had never tried a fig before, so it was new for me. (Not bad, reminded me of Kiwi)

I love shopping at farmers market. I think the fruits and veggies are alot fresher. Plus they are cheaper than buying them in the stores.

The prices are high on all the berries except strawberries at $1.50 a pound. We have a Farmers Market here, but I can't get to it. I can only shop at a supermarket or on line and pay high shipping costs.

mmmmm berries.. I love them.. especially strawberries and blackberries.. and I love cherries too..though they're not a berry, so kinda off topic. LOL I hate when you get them home, and even after you checked the bottom for moldy ones there's still some mojdy ones hiding in the middle.. makes me not want to eat any of them. One bad apple might not spoil the bunch.. but bad berries make the rest seem suspicious LOL

I love berries but can rarely afford anything more than strawberries and occasionally blueberries. Our farmer's market here is big on manufactured products(homemade to be sure) and small on reasonably priced produce. Last Mother's Day (2007) my kids gave me some blueberry bushes. I didn't have faith in either their ability to grow in the lime soil of Kansas or in the permanance of my residence, so I just put them in a big pot for safekeeping until I could plant them somewhere that was likely to be permanent. Imagine my surprise when the cute little twigs started bearing fruit this spring. Probably not more than a dozen berries on each plant but oh wow am I thrilled! My plan, when I grow up and get big, is to have a nice piece of land that I can fill with raspberry canes and all manner of fruit trees.
