Just as I predicted, mere minutes after I heard of the new Supreme Courts decision to overturn, Washington D.C.'s city wide band on the ownership of handguns, the NRA has already announced plans to challenge other cities' gun laws.
Challenges and lawsuits are already pending to attack cities such as Chicago and San Francisco over their attempts at limiting and curtailing the ownership and use of guns by ordinary citizens. In San Francisco, the NRA is specifically going to challenge the city's law banding the use and ownership of guns within government housing complexes.
Is this really about the Constitution or more about "nobody is going to tell me what to do" attitude that is now prevalent throughout our present society?

If gun ownership really does reduce crime why are our crime rates so much higher than other nations? Why do so many people die from gunshot wounds in the U.S. in comparison with other nations. (Our rate per 100,000 population is huge.)
The only explanation the NRA can possibley give is that the people of the U.S. are depraved, murderous, psychopaths. Either that or having so many guns in the hands of the general public is dangerous. Personally I favor the latter explanation.
It's part of our Constitution for Pete's sake... We can't pick and choose which parts to ignore, only use the process to change portions if we disagree.
I do believe that guns should be regulated to *some* degree... Meaning, if you're going to carry, then get a concealed carry permit and take the required safety courses that most states with concealed carry require.
That being said, there will always be stolen guns and other weapons on the "black market", so, it's really rather pointless to get all riled up about whether or not this city or that city is no longer banning guns... If people want them, they'll get them. And guns don't kill people per-say, PEOPLE kill people!
The monies paid by the gun and ammo manufacturers, to their lobbyist and into the coffers of the Washington elite have finally paid off.
Any laws dealing with the management and policing of firearms will now surely be challenged by the NRA. Now there is the issue of extremists and government hating groups who now have more ammo to attack the curtailing of their right, to own a bazooka, which they only want for hunting.
This issue goes way past, over turning DC's band on guns within their jurisdiction, way past.
I suppose background checks and waiting periods will be fought also.
What a country.
