Hi Everyone!
Gather is working on marketing campaign that will feature member photos. We're currently sifting though the site and finding a treasure trove of amazing images. But we'd also like to ask you for suggestions. If you're interested in submitting your favorite photos for consideration, simply publish them with the tag gatherpics and we will find 'em.
Here are the categories we're focusing on:
- Moments That Matter
- Weddings, Graduation
- Birthday Parties
- Proms
- Family Portraits
- Reunions
- Cute Kids
- Pets
- Travels and Adventure
If selected, you must be willing to provide a high resolution version of your pic.
Gather is not paying members for images, but your name will accompany the photo, so anyone seeing it will know it is yours.
Please submit your images no later than Wednesday 7/2 at 5pm ET. Thanks Gatherers... we can't wait to what develops!

you are gonna have tons of pics!!
in any of these categories, but whose work lights up the pages here. I also wish
that Gather would improve its image upload quality by increasing the resolution to allow these images to be published with detail and integrity as close to the original as possible. I hardly even try to upload my paintings any more as it is either too difficult and frustrating to wait for the 10+ times it takes to process them, even at the restricted size....and then to be so discouraged when all of my subtle shading and intricate lines are completely mushed. Thanks for listening and for this competition. I wish I had a category to enter with.
So, do you want us to just add the tag to current photos then?
More details, please!
Gather does not claim ownership of Content you submit or make available for inclusion on the Service. However, with respect to such Content, you grant Gather a world-wide, royalty free, perpetual, unlimited, and non-exclusive license(s) to use, distribute, reproduce, modify, adapt, create derivative works, publicly perform and publicly display such Content via the Service or on any other Gather property. Gather reserves the right to syndicate the Content submitted, posted, and/or displayed by you and to use that Content in connection with other services offered by Gather.
If I'm reading this correctly, if you've posted it on Gather, they can use it in their campaign whether it's tagged gatherpics or not. I would hope that Gather would limit their search to only willing participants.
regarding the TOS statement which includes ..."publicly display such Content via the Service or on any other Gather property", I would like to know beforehand in what manner will our photos be displayed...electronically,video montages,or hard copy printed media?....and what specifically are the "other Gather properties" ?
is it okay to add smaller, but visible copyright text on bottom right or left of high res photo?.....since resolution is only important for printed matter, then am I correct in assuming you will use our photos for brochures, magazines or ads?
Will we receive copies of the published materials if our photos are included?....would be nice addition to our portfolios...
Hope you will address my questions so that I can get busy with my selection....is there a limit to how many we can tag?
cheers,gayle
The plan is to have the photos prominently displayed on Gather. Right now, we are not planning to use the images in any print campaign. If you'd like to add copyright text on your image, that's absolutely fine... but as mentioned above, the plan is to include the photographers name along with the photo... and we will certainly ask your permission before using your images in the campaign.
"The plan is to have the photos prominently displayed on Gather. Right now, we are not planning to use the images in any print campaign."
Will the images be used anywhere outside of Gather at this time?
for shame!
high res 300 ppi photo files are required for printing....i never upload that high of a resolution on web sites since not only does it eat up bandwidth, but makes for a slow download to view by those still on dial up....
my photo files display high quality at 72 ppi - 200 ppi and to the naked eye, the quality is same on the web....perhaps high resolution differs somewhat with digital of various pixel amounts such as 3.5 mp and 8 or 10 mp cameras regarding image size and that is what your info is addressing?
regarding copyright watermarking....i currently post my images with a larger CR notice to help prevent unauthorized use since my work has been previously stolen....if chosen, i would be willing to provide a copy with a more discreet CR notice, but will you be more specific about how the photos will be displayed..(ie., single photo in a special group,or front page feature, etc.)
also, your current system doesn't display horizontal format (landscape orientation) as large as vertical format (portrait orientation)...will you be changing that so we can submit images in landscape orientation?....otherwise, the files are compressed and display as a much smaller image....
Are you also interested in B/W images?
Thanks.....cheers,gayle
