Ready or not here I come....the book is out.

Nearly a year ago I tested the waters with Lulu.com and put together a collection of poetry called The Long and Short of It and published on Lulu, where it's available in print for about $7 and downloadable for about a buck. I was seriously lacking in promoting it though, and I have a lot to learn. A couple months ago I did the same thing with my novel No Sensible People, except I didn't put it up for sale to the public. Only to me. There were a few formatting issues, but I was able to revise those.

Lulu publishing in and of itself does not cost anything, you just pay for the books you order, and you are free to set your prices however you wish. What does cost money is the other services, including obtaining an ISBN number and barcode, and any editing or marketing services you may choose to add on. I'd been weighing whether or not to actually pay for the ISBN code and a received notification that they were offering a free ISBN number -- a $99 value. I thought for sure there was a catch. I'd have to purchase a $300 marketing pack or something, but there wasn't. I was able to update the novel with the ISBN barcode for no charge. It is now available on Lulu.com and in 6-8 weeks it will be able to be sold on Amazon and elsewhere. The print edition is about $14, and it is downloadble for about $3.

There is also a preview available of both books on my Lulu Storefront.  The Long and Short of It is a 50 page collection of 24 poems catagorized by mood. Many of the poems have appeared on Gather. No Sensible People is a story of reconciliation. The bulk of it takes place in Minneapolis when a young woman is granted custody of her unfamiliar nine year old neice from the small (fictitious) town of Leifton, MN after her sister and brother-in-law have died tragic deaths. Both must deal with their mutual loss, reconcile the past, and adjust to one another's often conflicting values.  Feel free to peruse the first few pages and tell me what you think.
